I agree but am 80 years old and this year have had to stop driving and can only walk around on my property, due to arthritis around my neck's spinal cord that makes me dizzy. I live in an unincorporated area and have nobody to drive me anywhere, which makes me depend on deliveries and occasional visits from relatives who are not local. So I need to mail in my vote. I still have my driver's license but my printer does not have a scanning function, and I would be reluctant to mail a copy. I have not mailed in a vote before, but it appears there is some kind of check on who I am. The problem is that the person who does the checking should be someone who works for the government rather than not-to-be-trusted polling place workers. In any case, elderly and infirm people cannot by themselves take in an ID and show up to vote.
In Serbia, in cases like this, two representatives of two different political parties go to your home and give you the ballot, then take it back to the polling place. I see no reason why that couldn't be done in the US.

I live in a very rural area and even our poor little county has vans that take old or disabled people to Dr appts, grocery shopping, to the polls etc. They do it free of charge and by appt. - all you have to do is call. I believe it may be volunteers who drive but not sure. They may be employed by the county.
Also, have you no friends or neighbors who are willing to drive you to necessary appts, shopping, Dr visits etc?
Sorry you're in such a situation. When my mother got old I drove 3 hrs round-trip every week or 10 days to bring groceries, meds, etc. I wish you had a child nearby to help you. I would do it if I were near you <3

From what I remember, basically every single "voter ID" law that has been shot down in the past already had provisions to ensure poor people could get it for free. That's not how vote by mail works. Look at Oregon and you will see how it is done. The ballot arrives at your home by USPS. The ballot is filled out and returned by USPS. There is no control, no authentication; it is ripe for abuse.
Why don't you go explore the politics of the state of Oregon before and after the imposition of vote by mail. it is a case study in how Democrats will destroy the entire system. That is why they are salivating now at the opportunity to bring this "convenience" to the rest of the country.

At the end of the day we can never fully solve the problem if we want to keep everyone’s votes anonymous (which I fully support). I think Voter ID will go a long way toward solving parts of the problem, but we also need to be demanding more than just voter ID. We need to be demanding some sort of verification/blockchain type system that allows everyone to check votes in real time as they come in, with DECENTRALIZATION being a key component (which is why I mention blockchain, although I’m not an expert). Having the system decentralized helps maintain integrity, and having it digitized with some type of anonymized pins/keys/hashes could allow for people to check their own votes to ensure that they indeed were counted and awarded appropriately. Like I said, im not an expert in how exactly it would work, but we need to demand something like this. Hopefully we could get it, but if not we’ve potentially positioned ourselves for others to compromise on voter ID. This is how the Dems operate and it seems to work every damn time unfortunately.
It’s not possible to have both privacy and integrity. I’ve thought about it for a while and I don’t see how it could be done. Verification itself necessitates connecting a vote back to a person somehow.
A blockchain is a smart idea. You could generate random ids when recording a vote and let people verify their vote by that id.
The problem is how do you verify that those voters were legitimate? You can’t have any identifying information on the blockchain since it is public, so the only way to do it would be to verify eligibility beforehand through voter id.
Or you could have it as a secondary system that lets you compare automated records on the blockchain with the normal tallies to check for fraud.

The "racist" aspect of "voter id" started in the 90s here with the idea that the only people that had time to wait in line at the DMV to get identification were rich people that could leave work for an ID. Late 90s anything or anyone in this state that mentioned "Voter ID" was touted out-loud as advocating for a "poll-tax". "You are excluding an entire segment of our city from voting that way!!!"
Well, 2 years later we had the 2000 census and what did it tell us about "Voter ID", it told us that nearly half of the entire demographic we were told we were "excluding" not only didnt bother to vote, but also didnt give a shit about identification at all.

From what I remember, basically every single "voter ID" law that has been shot down in the past already had provisions to ensure poor people could get it for free. They still get shot down for some reason. We are basically one of, if not the ONLY first-world country that DOESN'T have voter ID laws protecting our elections. Even all the countries that democrats love to idolize for various reasons have voter ID. But of course, that is one of the only things they DON'T want to emulate about those countries.

The whole point of voter Id is that you are ensuring that the vote is legit being cast by the right person. I don’t see how you do that through the mail.
Short answer: they don't. Look at how it is done by Oregon. They ship ballots to the homes of anyone who has registered to vote. This means the person who receives the ballots can fill them out. Ballots can end up at the wrong house. They supposedly "compare" signatures on your voter registration to the one on the ballot. Lets be honest, though, when they are opening hundreds of thousands of ballots on election night no one is comparing signatures to voter registrations. Vote by mail is how Democrats in Oregon ensure election outcomes. They get the force of Broward County tactics without any accountability, under the cover of a system with no integrity. Vote by mail destroyed a once reliably conservative state in Oregon. Don't let them do this to your state as well.
You cant unless there is a USB drive with the living person saying into the camera "I am X voting for X". There is no physical other way to confirm the vote is legitimate.

A way you do it is you display your ID when you drop your ballot off. They mail it to you, and you go in, show your ID and then drop your ballot.
That's not how vote by mail works. Look at Oregon and you will see how it is done. The ballot arrives at your home by USPS. The ballot is filled out and returned by USPS. Ostensibly, the intended voter signed the ballot. In reality anyone can fill out the ballot and forge a signature. An abusive husband can force his wife to vote in a certain way (or vice versa). There is no control, no authentication; it is ripe for abuse.
Why don't you go explore the politics of the state of Oregon before and after the imposition of vote by mail. it is a case study in how Democrats will destroy the entire system. That is why they are salivating now at the opportunity to bring this "convenience" to the rest of the country.
I live in Oregon (unfortunately), and it would be easy to set up ballot drop offs where you have to show your ID rather than just putting it in a mail box. It would just require a means of keeping track of who voted.

I'm military and I'll tell you id rather just not have mail in voting at all. Less than 1% of the country is military and when you split that vote it doesn't make a difference in any election.

I don't think we should accept the results of any mail in elections. If America is going to let the dems get away with stealing elections then it is time to recognize that the ballot box has failed and move on to the ammo box.
At the end of the day we can never fully solve the problem if we want to keep everyone’s votes anonymous (which I fully support). I think Voter ID will go a long way toward solving parts of the problem, but we also need to be demanding more than just voter ID. We need to be demanding some sort of verification/blockchain type system that allows everyone to check votes in real time as they come in, with DECENTRALIZATION being a key component (which is why I mention blockchain, although I’m not an expert). Having the system decentralized helps maintain integrity, and having it digitized with some type of anonymized pins/keys/hashes could allow for people to check their own votes to ensure that they indeed were counted and awarded appropriately. Like I said, im not an expert in how exactly it would work, but we need to demand something like this. Hopefully we could get it, but if not we’ve potentially positioned ourselves for others to compromise on voter ID. This is how the Dems operate and it seems to work every damn time unfortunately.
It’s not possible to have both privacy and integrity. I’ve thought about it for a while and I don’t see how it could be done. Verification itself necessitates connecting a vote back to a person somehow.
A blockchain is a smart idea. You could generate random ids when recording a vote and let people verify their vote by that id.
The problem is how do you verify that those voters were legitimate? You can’t have any identifying information on the blockchain since it is public, so the only way to do it would be to verify eligibility beforehand through voter id.
Or you could have it as a secondary system that lets you compare automated records on the blockchain with the normal tallies to check for fraud.
