I have to show a photo ID to buy Nyquil.

I have to show my ID to get a movie ticket or use one I’ve already purchased online. I have to show my ID to sit in the driver’s seat of a moving vehicle. I have to show my ID to buy an alcoholic beverage. I have to show my ID to walk into a gym. I have to show my ID to give a bank money. I have to show my ID to receive income from an employer. I have to show my ID to get married, or divorced. I have to show my ID to get into Costco and buy toilet paper. Even Bitcoin banks typically require IDs.

What’s the argument against voter ID? Who are they saying doesn’t have an ID? Children too young to vote? I’ve never met a single minority, women, gay person, transy, or regular that didn’t have an ID, if not multiple forms of ID. Old people walk around with every ID they have ever had at times, going back 50 years. What reason could there be for not having ID, or not having ID to vote? Aren’t we one of the only countries that doesn’t do it, and all other countries are supposedly better than the US according to people that are against voter ID?

If polling numbers show democrats get less votes in areas with voter ID laws, wouldn’t that mean people are cheating in those areas? Who the fuck doesn’t have an ID? My dog has an ID.

Voter ID is racist because black people are too dumb to get ID. Checkmate, Drumpftard!

Nyquil is racist.

YankeeHutt 2 points ago +3 / -1

Welp, in many cases that is correct.

They’re so massively insulting to black people in ways that go under the radar. All the black people I know have ID, based on seeing them take it out to buy things and them having a drivers license and car and registration. There are very few adult things you can do without an ID. They treat them like they’re worse than children.

They really can't see themselves being racist saying that...

It reminds me of one of Doug Walker's skits.

<Villain does bad things in a movie.>

Girl: "Daddy, could that be me?"

Father: "No dear. He's evil, you're good."

Girl: "Oh. Okay."

When those loons say "We're the good guys." they believe it in the most cartoonish way possible.

And that argument, as stupid and insulting as it is, is still the only reason they have to oppose it.

Maybe the only reason that they are willing to admit. We know it is really about wanting to commit voter fraud.

The only reason for opposing voter ID is to commit the crime of fraud. Nobody "can't get an ID", that's a lie to support intent to commit election fraud. Pure and simple.

Is there any other way to see it?

The only argument I’ve ever heard is one mentioned elsewhere in this thread. Specifically, that it’s some how some form of racism or discrimination. It’s incredibly demeaning to suggest that minority groups they claim to represent do not currently have, and further, are not capable of obtaining, a valid form of identification. If my dog can get ID anybody can get ID. And they already have ID. They drive and get paid and drink and pay rent. Everybody’s got a fucking ID.

In France we go a step beyond. We have a voter card AND an ID. You must register in the town you live in to get this card delivered, and it's only valid for the year you demanded it. Have that ID but not the card? You didn't register for voting, you're booted.

I'm not sure how our elections integrity is ensured beyond the ballot box however.

Illegal aliens can even get ID in states that don’t require voter ID.

Well said and true!

I agree but am 80 years old and this year have had to stop driving and can only walk around on my property, due to arthritis around my neck's spinal cord that makes me dizzy. I live in an unincorporated area and have nobody to drive me anywhere, which makes me depend on deliveries and occasional visits from relatives who are not local. So I need to mail in my vote. I still have my driver's license but my printer does not have a scanning function, and I would be reluctant to mail a copy. I have not mailed in a vote before, but it appears there is some kind of check on who I am. The problem is that the person who does the checking should be someone who works for the government rather than not-to-be-trusted polling place workers. In any case, elderly and infirm people cannot by themselves take in an ID and show up to vote.

In Serbia, in cases like this, two representatives of two different political parties go to your home and give you the ballot, then take it back to the polling place. I see no reason why that couldn't be done in the US.

Understood, but does the argument hold water that requiring you to show ID to vote, when most states have lengthy early voting periods, somehow will sway an election?

I live in a very rural area and even our poor little county has vans that take old or disabled people to Dr appts, grocery shopping, to the polls etc. They do it free of charge and by appt. - all you have to do is call. I believe it may be volunteers who drive but not sure. They may be employed by the county.

Also, have you no friends or neighbors who are willing to drive you to necessary appts, shopping, Dr visits etc?

Sorry you're in such a situation. When my mother got old I drove 3 hrs round-trip every week or 10 days to bring groceries, meds, etc. I wish you had a child nearby to help you. I would do it if I were near you <3

I’m sorry to hear that! I’d be fine with a voting assistance measure in cases like yours. Like you said, have someone show up and verify your identity and take in the ballot. Someone that isn’t a new college grad that majored in political tampering. Maybe even a police officer.

You’d think people in your situation would want to make the left support voter ID though. Older people tend to be smarter and more conservative. They don’t want people like you to vote.
