"we secured approval from China to export to the U.S. 10 million N95 respirators manufactured by 3M in China."

They had to secure approval from Chicoms to export from their own factory...

Fuck these cocksuckers, in fact fuck all global branded bullshit companies that offshore every fucking thing that isn't counting money.

All US-based corporations with operations in china must halt and repatriate them immediately. Those who do no comply will be fined, imprisoned, and all corporate assets seized and sold to the highest American bidder.

Needs to happen.

MaxineWaters4Prez 16 points ago +17 / -1

Tariffs is the way to go. You can produce them in China and export them here, but it's going to make the product noncompetitive in price if they have to shell out more than the cost of the product.

poop 3 points ago +11 / -8

No. Fuck em. Take away the company and throw them to the wolves.

We're at war.

16
hackthefortress 16 points ago +20 / -4

Yeah no mate - that fly's in the face of free enterprise. That's actions straight out of the socialist/communist playbook.

Tariffs are absolutely the way to go. If you want to use overseas (cheap) labour and factories, pay the toll. It will either bring billions into the country via tariffs OR billions by the companies bringing their production back in. Either way, it's a win win for the country.

Forcing a company to do something by force, is communism 101. I question where your loyalty is.

Thehoytime 2 points ago +3 / -1

Better yet, end all the bull shit taxes and regulations. Then you don't even need tariffs, we can easily out compete slave labor.

Before, Trump would have faced a political firestorm for any perceived increased costs. Now? His pressing for the repatriation of critical manufacturing looks like freaking Nostradamus.

The law is not on their side right now, and I am disappointed they would kill so many Americans. It is a National emergency, seize it.

7
MaxineWaters4Prez 7 points ago +8 / -1

I agree with the sentiment, but that's wholly un-American. The DPA is being used and it is a fair compensation. But that's short term. President Trump is spot on with his plans for tariffs. Make it more expensive to produce overseas and ship here than to produce here and sell here.

dems_be_crazy 1 point ago +2 / -1

This worship of free market at all costs has got to die in the republican party. Our founders never believed this. The United States is one country and trade within our borders should never have hindrances, but I'm tired of sacrificing our brothers and sisters to a market that values only monetary costs.

This is wholly unrelated to socialism that seeks to strip wealth from the individual, but a middle ground that realizes the extremes are both destructive. I want a businessman to make as much money as possible, but I refuse to hollow out my country so he can have an additional 15% margin. People matter. They need purpose and freedom to flourish. Socialism strips both, but so does hypercapitalism. It is more deceptive because our metrics show we are making more money than ever - we should be prospering.

We cannot and should not compete with slave labor. We should break imports into classifications based on the average labor costs involved and tariff the difference between our own domestic market. This will raise prices and wages in the US and disincentivize cheap labor over seas.

Money is only a tool and we've lost sight of that. It is not serving our communities. Sure, we have some of the richest men in the world making all of the money in the world, but we have people who have lost hope. People who slave to earn enough money to survive. Communities so preoccupied with making enough money to survive that we've stopped caring about our neighbor.

I'm a conservative because we once had these principles. Our country was built on them. Our founders didn't tax our people, but ran on the tariffs of goods crossing our external borders. We finally rid ourselves of the scourge of slavery only to outsource it again. We made the mistake of letting greed run uncontrolled, rather than harnessing it's natural urges to benefit the most people.

1
MaxineWaters4Prez 1 point ago +1 / -0

You're conflating trade within our borders with a company reaping all the benefits of slave labor in China then shipping the product back here.

This robs Americans of jobs and steals from our own economy. Money is a tool, yes. But we can't be great if we're short changing ourselves by allowing companies to cheat us for their benefit.

If we make the cost of producing elsewhere prohibitive, they will produce here. With American materials and American labor. It's a win for everyone. We just have to deincentivise outsourcing material and labor.

guacisextra 10 points ago +13 / -3

Screw these people, the president needs to nationalize them NOW. After the CCP Virus is beaten and 3M is returned to their current management, boycott 3M for killing Americans over the false god of globalism. Boycott that shit until a real American runs the company, like Michael Lindell

8
CaptainChrisPBacon 8 points ago +8 / -0

No the current Management needs to be hung. And sell all their stock.

8
Womp_womp 8 points ago +8 / -0

What the FUCK part about "AMERICA FIRST" don't these douchebags understand?

The part where they hate America and what it stands for.

8

March in the National Guard. That company belongs to America only now. Be done with this shit.

16
Seruna_Kanus 16 points ago +19 / -3

Let's not go full socialist on this. Just let the market show 3M what the public thinks of them leaving customers and clients in the US to die.

6
Tyrant597 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yep, already sold my stock! Bye-bye!

1
feelips 1 point ago +1 / -0

The masks manufactured in the U.S. need to go to U.S. customers first. That is the fastest way to get them to U.S. customers. Those masks made in China can go to other customers.

0
Taqiyya_Mockingbird 0 points ago +1 / -1

We take it for two months, then give it to the markets, which are almost nonexistent currently. We’re already Socialist living like this. We have to fight our way out.

Tell that to Dick's Sporting Goods.

The market will, in fact, punish them. Also, calling people "stupid, ignorant, idealist, antiquated, virtue signalling" isn't exactly pushing the rest of your argument in a positive direction.

"There are, however, significant humanitarian implications of ceasing respirator supplies to healthcare workers in Canada and Latin America" They are going to find themselves Nationalize. And the Marines will be running 3M.They did not come right out and say they were going to continue business as usual. But it sounds like it.

We played nice, now Nationalize the mother fuckers!

4
underthesmellybridge 4 points ago +6 / -2

earlier this week, we secured approval from China to export to the U.S. 10 million N95 respirators manufactured by 3M in China.

Translation, they're China's masks produced in a factory built by 3M (with American knowledge and treasure).

Time for some enforcement actions. Paging Bill Barr. If you can prosecute General Flynn, you can prosecute these fuckers.

3

2

President Trump should freeze 3M's stock on the market and freeze all of their US accounts. Seize their assets, US factories and patents and ban them from any further business in the United States.

Arrest the officials in charge, extradite them if necessary.

2

Why would countries that are importing masks be exporting masks?

1
drachennwolf 1 point ago +1 / -0

3M is also responsible for a lot of firefighter deaths. Their PPE is what is causing cancer when heated, it offgasses carcinogens. Also, 3M can be thanked for their PFAS foam cancer as well.

The DPA is textbook fascism. Using the power of the market is the American way. The DPA is an illegal and immoral bandaid for illegal and immoral overregulation by the FDA.

If we rolled back some of the govt overregulation and applied tariffs, the market would have already resolved this. But govt, and many posters here, would rather thousands die than relinquish the slightest power.

I didn't read it as refusing the order, just pointing out the problems that could occur.

Let the US government get the respirators and then decide how important it is to supply neighboring countries.
