I don't think I agree with you. Are you not fine with eating them just cos they have helped us in past and are lovable creatures? What about cows and sheeps? Why not extend the same protection to them? They have fed and clothed us and I don't think they have killed any more humans than dogs. Help me understand, are those things you mentioned your sole criterion for not killing, eating any animal?
So if China and South East Asia has bred them(dogs) for eating, doesn't that mean its fine to eat them? Humans are apex predators, we can eat them by design, so why not? Just found out people also eat gator meat. So your predator prey argument is moot. As far as companion thins goes, any being can be made a companion, if i have kangaroo or alpaca companion, would people stop eating them? That's not proper logic, try again. Also using your personal self as an example, like eating it in dire times, is a bad way to argue. You're eating it anyway, whether boiling or dicing and slicing.
