No. Just people that have watched too much The Walking Dead.

Half are scared that it will happen. The other half are hoping it happens.

Not joking.

ClownTamer 17 points ago +19 / -2

This is sad but true. Especially TDS folks. In my area they walk around—when they do leave their house—wearing hazmat level protection. They act like I’m walking miles on on hot coals when I go walk my dog without a mask. They look on in awe. Not joking.

3
ClownTamer 3 points ago +3 / -0

I’ve sold things online to help people that looked like they were wearing hazmat suits when they showed up to get it, and damn near disintegrated what I sold them with cleaning products when they arrived. Way too many viral outbreak movies and The Walking Dead have made people wait for a moment like this to give them an excuse to cosplay and role play and freak the fuck out and have purpose and direction.

7
slrpnls 7 points ago +7 / -0

Yup. Easy times breed soft people. Believe me, I can't live my life worrying about maybe dying over something I can't control. When God wants me, He can take me at any time.

I have allergies and so I cough and sneeze every day of my life. Worrying never solved anything. Freaking out never solved anything. It just shows you as being a pussy.

6
ClownTamer 6 points ago +6 / -0

I’m more or less the same way. I’ve noticed that people that are the biggest pussies have had almost no real hardship in their lives. Their lives are so contained and comfortable all the time that even the slightest breeze blowing the wrong way is, to them, a hurricane.

We’d probably be better off as a country if we made everyone serve a year or two in the military when they came of age. Beats the pussy right out of you. Make girls do it too and mandate they meet the physical requirements at that age. Obesity epidemic solved while we’re at it!

I grew up poor. We weren't on welfare but several times my father was without work. He was also partly disabled. Money was short and growing up we had no video games, I wore hand me downs and a lot of my toys came from garage sales. We had no AC in the summer and in the winter we barely had heat. We learned to make do with what we had and we thanked God that we had what we did and even volunteered through church to help others.

Meanwhile the people I know who are freaking the fuck out are the types where the biggest problem they've had in their life is that their WiFi went out for a day or two.

"...if we made everyone..."

Any time I see that phrase I think, "Well, there's someone who's anti-freedom." I don't care if it's mandatory health insurance, mandatory charity via social programs, or mandatory military service.

No.

Because it doesn't fit the current "agenda."

35
SJBHamilton 35 points ago +36 / -1

I think the underlying health problems are the major factor, less so the age.

Here in Utah a 24 YO girl, overweight, with diabetes, has died. And I've seen posts of 70 and 80 year olds who have beaten this thing with flying colors.

30
Sandworm 30 points ago +30 / -0

She also had a heart surgery two years ago.

Underlying conditions and immune system strength have always been more important than raw age. That's why immunocompromised are included in with elderly.

It just so happens that old age and weakened immune systems are synonymous.

3
residue69 3 points ago +3 / -0

If she had a heart condition, they wouldn't give her HQC, because it could kill her. Which is pretty crazy, because she died anyway.

5
now_look_here 5 points ago +5 / -0

In some hospitals 90% of the people in IC are overweight. Appears to be a main risk factor. Get fit people.

3
Pres-Trump 3 points ago +5 / -2

There was another over-weight woman who died recently in an unrelated event, but no one else cared about it and some innocent person went to jail because of it. The media knows he won't give too much of a shit to actually do something about it.

The tide is turning, CCP and the glibal cabal is all out front. The world is seeing all the key players come out to the light. The next 2 weeks going to suck but following President Trump and how he has been talking about certain key points. He started dropping them 3 weeks ago. President Trump said in his opening yesterday. Is going to get alittle bad and then quickly turn. I can see a wuflu test and a pack of HCQ and have the head of the hurd to get back out and start getting this economy back online in May. You know how much overtime and pay raises will be coming out. The jobs will come back and possibly more since we are going to start cutting China out. No one trust thenlm except the other Globalist leaders and commie bastards. The deployment of our military to help the Police and first responders is huge. They dont like Trump time cause they are on Political time. They thought this would be much worse . they want full control over everything and I see it all turning very soon. President Trump knows and he hasnt let us down yet. What I most fear is that the states who have shitty governors leave and bring that bullshit to other states. I hope Nov. Has a huge and ever lasting impact on the Democratic Communust party .

13

11
Lla26 11 points ago +16 / -5

Because a company can’t function without all needed employees, and they’re not going to kick their over-35 to the curb. You have to look at companies as a whole, not individuals. Trump wants everyone to resume their previous jobs.

12
Pede 12 points ago +12 / -0

At least give companies a choice based on their available employees. Tons of small businesses would open up, with temp workers if they had to.

6
bigtimepie 6 points ago +7 / -1

How did he create a false dichotomy? He is making an assertion that a company can't function without all needed employees of all age groups. Maybe your master electrician is over 35 and none of the younger ones has his knowledge or skills.

3
deleted 3 points ago +5 / -2
6
Staatssicherheit 6 points ago +6 / -0

I didn't infer a false dichotomy in OP's statement. I may be wrong but I think he would agree with you that there are some companies that can operate with only people under 35 and some companies that can not. Like you said, it's not true 100% of the time.

Yeah my company has WFH in place for everyone, but they accept volunteers to come in and handle stuff in the labs. My 70-something coworker as well as a ton of other older folks and my coworkers undergoing chemo are staying home. I occasionally go in to handle stuff that can't be done remotely. Nobody at my company has died. A coworker did get it but he was home, beat it, and is now back to working remote. Nobody needed to get laid off and therefore nobody did.

People are just being smart about it, not licking windows, and nobody is getting seriously ill. Hell, the sedentary lifestyle that most software developers lead, combined with the constant fast food and energy drinks will do most of them in before this virus ever will.

I think its naive and stupid of us to think we can track or stop a virus. Look at the maps, the virus made it to every single little rural town in fly over America. If its not airborne, how did it make it to all these towns within 1 month? This thing has been here for months and months. Do you really think your little cloth diaper on your face and your empty bank account is helping anything? People are worried about the hospital's filling up, but they don't even do anything to help people. Most people put on ventilators just die. People are filling up hospitals just so they can lay there and be counted as a death.

9
jgardner 9 points ago +10 / -1

You CAN do something to stop the spread of viruses: Get the virus, and get immune. You will stop the spread of the virus by doing so, and perhaps your blood can be used to cure people who get it and may die from it.

During virus outbreaks, you should isolate the weak, and let everyone else spread the virus far and wide. After a certain amount of time, the virus will all but disappear, and you don't need to isolate the weak anymore.

9
accountable 9 points ago +9 / -0

Isolate the weak. Everyone goes on biz as usual. Holy SHIT what is this alien logic?

Lawyers. Lawyers are why he can't go back to work. If he gets the virus at work... lawsuit. If the boss asks all the over 60's to stay home... Lawsuit. If the boss asks those with underlying conditions to stay home... Lawsuit. If the boss pays those who should stay home the same as those who work... Lawsuit. If you're the boss, your hands are tied.
You have to let everyone back AND provide a safe work environment. One guy takes off his mask or bumps into another worker.... lawsuit. Lawyers fuck up everything.

Draft is a bad example. The Selective Service, having been ruled unconstitutional discrimination against men, just had an appeals court hearing in March.

The reason women aren't required is because they didn't ask to be included. There are numerous jobs they could do that don't involve combat. It's equality à la carte. If women shouldn't be drafted, they shouldn't vote at 18 either like the men who were.

The problem is it's a slippery slope and maybe pointless if patches of employees are showing up, and others aren't.

Stop the Spread is working. The problem is going to be faggot governors like blackface in Virginia who are shutting down their states just to blame Trump.

3
IAmNotSuicidal 3 points ago +3 / -0

Problem is too many people are overweight associated with other health problems. They are sitting ducks to little viruses like these. And our healthcare system is more about giving drugs than healthcare which lowers patients immune system.

Though I did not agree with shutting down the world.

3
Barthaneous 3 points ago +3 / -0

6000 deaths yet no one is taking that into context. Sounds a lot but if the perspective of the United States population and made a single person the representation of the U. S population. Then on a very simple scale you would see that 6000 deaths is not even 1% of 1% of the 300 million population. And in a human body example that's like the Pinky Toe nail. Would you serious think a boss or manager would allow you to call out sick and not work for just a pinky toe nail? I don't think so.

Get back to work!

Wife and I go out for walks all the time, we've been going on with life as normal. A few days ago some older woman (definitely retired) in a really nice luxury SUV drove by and was giving us the death glare and staring angrily as we walked on the sidewalk outside of our place. Was as if we were not allowed to leave our homes or something. At the same time though, this bitch is outside, going about her day. Plus, both my wife and I are still working - not following social distancing guidelines or masks or any of that bullshit. This lady is going on about her life as usual, but of course it would be pure terror if we ever did so.

That young person can still be a carrier - although with a mask, gloves, and other basic precautions, risk is virtually 0 of contracting the virus or spreading it.
