I know this because I have this argument daily with my dad, who is an engineer, and my neighbors who are oil and gas execs. Definitely not stupid people but will buy the narrative that comes from institutional authority figures so long as there is data to somewhat justify the claim.
If you compare the death forecasts to the reported deaths, that number is still tracking budget to actual. But damn near half the deaths are NY/NJ so it's going to most likely hit a wall soon. Next Friday the figure is supposed to be 20,000 deaths, then the following Friday it's supposed to be 38,000 deaths. (Total) I think that is where the forecasts really start to veer off course from reality.
