Came here to say this, taking into consideration the OP point as well, China had nothing to lose by letting it rip through their Country.

I wonder how much the Democrats had to pay China to borrow it...

Agree, but if that's the case they had nothing to lose by letting it out to the world, especially the U.S. We were (Trump) was laying the hammer down on them. Have had this argument with friends, some say I'm crazy some think its not.

China's aging population is a HUGE problem for them.

  • 35% of China's population will be elderly in 2050 (US is ~11%)
  • 26% of China's GDP will be spent on elderly healthcare services (currently 7%)
  • In 2016 China realized this problem and ended their one-child policy.

The virus clears out their elderly population and fixes the problem.

Thats like 600 million old people. The 1 child policy will finally kick in and have a massive population drop. We'll see how that works out for them.

I figured it was about HK all the time, not about sick and elderly.

Yep. Exactly what I came here to say. China thought they could shut down the protests and put the genie back in the bottle. Ooops.
