Yeah I've seen a couple news stories of complications due to COVID. Makes me skeptical that it's not actually the virus, but something they can barely link to call it a case.
This is a big overreaction. The elderly and people with pre existing conditions stay home and let the business stay open and let life go on. Most healthy people are saying it’s a bad cold or no symptoms at all. I remember several years ago I got the swine flu 105+ fever and bedridden all week and I was in my early 20s. But that’s when the Dems had control so they downplayed it.
Especially when most elderly people completely understand the risks.
I have many parents, in-laws, aunts, and uncles all well past retirement age and every single one would rather risk death from catching COVID than to be isolated from their friends and loved ones for the next several months.
My own mother's biggest fear is to not see any of her kids ever again. Her depression might just get her before COVID does.

Clearly a bot, clearly an agenda, clearly a lie. But the few people who called it out in the replies were shouted down by "how dare you attack this poor soul in their time of mourning!!"...

What I don't understand is why the numbers of these big cities haven't dramatically dropped based on the US-wide 'stay away' 'stay home if you can' three weeks starting March 16 thru (almost 3 weeks) today. Seems like that one move would have made a dramatic impact, even without 100% compliance. That three weeks should have given burnout time for anyone exposed at that point, admitted or elsewise quarantined home at that point, and anyone in the family exposed at that early stage. Speaking for my area it's because nobody wants to get caught with their pants down and they've kicked the can for a long ass time on building up stockpiles. There are serious implications in terms of OSHA and responsibility to the community. Imagine if you didn't have the necessary supplies, had no immediate ability to procure the supplies, and all of a sudden you had a spike in cases. Now you're responsible for your employees who get exposed, the further patient contacts they have that day which are now also exposed, etc. Next thing you know you have an entire community spread and your hospital which was unprepared is now the central nexus for that spread. You could be looking at incredible liability both morally and legally.
Honestly I'm so disappointed in hospitals all over the nation in the wake of this. It's like there was no COOP planning and no capacity build out capable of handling a rapidly spreading respiratory disease which we all in this field should know is a possibility.
Right now the biggest problems we are dealing with in hospitals and government is we don't have accurate models to forecast demand. From the demand model we will know what capacity we need and where it is needed. From there we can set up the logistics. There's a lot of people and information in that flow that we are waiting on, and right now the hospital administrators at the bottom are trying to leap to the end so you're seeing a lot of stupid fear based decisions being made.

This is pretty normal. And it isn't like there are easy lab tests available to determine if someone would have died with or without COVID. Since it is closer to the standard method of gathering data is offers a better baseline to compare it to other situations and graph things like the infection rate and mortality rates.
If you have ever been in robust data analysis the combines just a few different business sites worth of data you would know that there is a lot of noise involved even in those cases. Taking data from hundred of hospitals with different owners is obviously going to be a mess. If it makes you feel any better people probably died from this and were not counted/recorded as well due to reporting errors or atypical symptoms.

I work in DME and have taken probably 2,000 calls the past 2 months. I have only heard one story so far of someone's parent dying to Covid.
I hear about people who heard someone actually died.

Bureaucracy rarely turns on a dime. If you believe the system will be stressed in short order set up a system assuming it's already stressed so you'll be prepared when it is. I gotta say as a medical professional that all of this conspiracy talk and clear lack of understanding for how we do reporting on hospital systems really makes me lose faith in this place. Even as someone with insider knowledge for how all of this works when you politely try to explain/educate why this isn't the Droid they're looking for it isn't welcome. Why are hospitals who don't have a huge increase in patient intake requesting huge increases in PPE?
Speaking for my area it's because nobody wants to get caught with their pants down and they've kicked the can for a long ass time on building up stockpiles. There are serious implications in terms of OSHA and responsibility to the community. Imagine if you didn't have the necessary supplies, had no immediate ability to procure the supplies, and all of a sudden you had a spike in cases. Now you're responsible for your employees who get exposed, the further patient contacts they have that day which are now also exposed, etc. Next thing you know you have an entire community spread and your hospital which was unprepared is now the central nexus for that spread. You could be looking at incredible liability both morally and legally.
Honestly I'm so disappointed in hospitals all over the nation in the wake of this. It's like there was no COOP planning and no capacity build out capable of handling a rapidly spreading respiratory disease which we all in this field should know is a possibility.
Right now the biggest problems we are dealing with in hospitals and government is we don't have accurate models to forecast demand. From the demand model we will know what capacity we need and where it is needed. From there we can set up the logistics. There's a lot of people and information in that flow that we are waiting on, and right now the hospital administrators at the bottom are trying to leap to the end so you're seeing a lot of stupid fear based decisions being made.

This is pretty normal. And it isn't like there are easy lab tests available to determine if someone would have died with or without COVID. Since it is closer to the standard method of gathering data is offers a better baseline to compare it to other situations and graph things like the infection rate and mortality rates.
If you have ever been in robust data analysis the combines just a few different business sites worth of data you would know that there is a lot of noise involved even in those cases. Taking data from hundred of hospitals with different owners is obviously going to be a mess. If it makes you feel any better people probably died from this and were not counted/recorded as well due to reporting errors or atypical symptoms.
No way that this isn’t slanted to a large degree. What’s we have is a tremendous amount or anecdotal and factual data of mis categorization all across the world. And in this country chances are it is even far worse than this.

No one is saying every corpse has to be tested. CDC is saying it's okay to list COVID as a cause of death even if the patient was never tested, so long as they displayed some symptoms. Read the article again.
