What does work for me if I feel a cold coming on is to put a regular zinc supplement tablet in my mouth and let it dissolve. It works because the zinc happens to bind onto the cells of your mouth and throat in the same places that the rhinovirus would use to multiply. Since the rhinoviruses have no place to attach, they cannot multiply, and your body beats the cold.
I have done this only when I absolutely could not afford to have a cold because of an upcoming event. Dissolving a zinc tablet in your mouth not only tastes horrible, but it murders my taste buds for four or more days. Even drinking water tastes terrible, and I never get used to it. It might be that it will still beat the cold but wear off sooner if I do not dissolve the entire tablet.
