Grossly, and sadly.... true.

Fucking spot on if you ask me. They would’ve been talking about how women are most affected by a war with Japan while our Marines were being put on death marches. Would’ve been talking about the lack of diversity in the joint chiefs while Japan landed in Australia

Came here to say this. Very sad.

Except Roosevelt was a Democrat so they'd have been treating him like a king.

I'm not an expert but Roosevelt does seem like one of the worst presidents ever. We are so fortunate to have alternative media. The days when the leftist press could control the narrative are over. (Though the suppression of conservatives on FB, twtter, IG and other venues is a problem.)

I've never understood why the Japanese would attack the US. Even without my 20/20 hindsight, it doesn't seem like opening up a new front would be a good idea.

Same thing with Mussolini dragging Germany into Africa.

It makes me think that the greatest enemy of the Axis was their own stupidity/arrogance/desperation, they were starting fights in areas for no good reason.

They had reasons! But picking fights is never a good idea.

Admiral Yamamoto very strongly urged Japan not to attack US. There were very few people he had to convince, but among them was the royal ruler(s) of Japan that was treated almost like a god. Yamamoto's reasoning was that he had studied here, (at West Point I think?) seen the size and resources of our Country, and knew Japan had no chance to win.

This was viewed as weakness. I'm surprised he wasn't fired or worse. This speaks to his value as their top naval commander. Once he was overruled, he dutifully applied himself to creating strategy. It was thought our entire Pacific fleet could be wiped out in their one sneak attack. It's a fluke our aircraft carriers were somewhere else, and this changed naval priorities since.

Axis invading Africa was all about oil. The ironic thing here is everybody fought right on top of huge oil reserves, but Hitler's plan was just to use it to access other known and existing oil fields far away. He had the foresight to recognize that he'd need a large supply of oil to pursue his sadistic goals. Depriving him of that is one of the main ways we stopped him as quickly as we did; our planes had much higher octane fuel than they could get. If that one thing had been equal it would've taken much longer before we could ever do anything like D-Day.

They thought they could cripple our major base of operations in the Pacific.

All they did was energize our nuclear program.

Herbert Hoover kept a secret diary throughout the thirties chronicling the lead up to the war, to be published 50 years after his death. It was put out recently by the Hoover Institute, appropriately enough, and they say it makes good reading.

Good questions there.

why the Japanese would attack the US.

It seems their top reason was they wanted to take many Asian countries for their resources, like oil and rubber, and the only thing that could slow them down was the Pacific Fleet of the US Navy.

Of course, that resulted in the inevitable response of not just the large US population but the giant US industrial base. Even if the aircraft carriers, am assuming three of them, were also destroyed at Pearl Harbor that would only delay Japan getting destroyed.

Even if Japan avoided the Philippines, to not bring a US response, they could probably have gone into Malaya and many other areas. The British and Dutch were in no position to fight back in that area, plus the Japanese did sink, by plane attacks, the British ships in that area three days after Pearl Harbor.

Mussolini dragging Germany into Africa.

Italy had their traditional places in Libya and Ethiopia. Two thousand years earlier the Romans had gone into Carthage? In WW2, the Italians were bad at fighting so that caused the Germans to go in to Africa and take that battle over from them. They lost a lot of equipment and soldiers fighting over bits of sand there. Ended up giving Patton, and Monty and others, plenty of experience so they were better prepared for Europe.

In conclusion, and this means nothing, if Japan doesn't go to Pearl Harbor and if Germany ignores Africa then Japan and China would still be fighting and Eisenhower and Kennedy would have never been President.

If Germany didn't go into Russia, they would control all of Europe today, although as Germany is the EU they do control all of Europe today.

They wanted to cripple the Pacific fleet so they could advance on the Philippines and take the oil there. The Philippines are allied with America so attacking the Philippines means America would aid their ally. So they dida preemptive strike on us.

Real talk, fuck FDR. The media of our time would treat him the way they treated Obama: praise and admiration, while brushing all his socialist policies and agendas under the rug.

The news was just as fake back then, just on a different side. (Deep red pill, I know...)
