I can understand the feelings but Americans for the most part are complying because they really believe it’s the right thing to do for all of America. We’re actually making YUGE personal sacrifices right now for each other. One big pile of mushy American brotherly love.
Do you live in a Blue state? I ask because there seems to be a vast difference between red and blue states right now. Where red states seem to prioritizing the Constitution, blue states seem to be trampling all over it.
Example - my town (this came from my town's Facebook group) is issuing fines for those seen at the grocery store without a mask on. Nearly $1,000 fine. That's not a sacrifice, that's a compelled action. Our first selectwoman has ordered citizens call the police on anyone who is seen gathered in public with more than just their spouse (open question if that means calling the cops on a family with kids). Yesterday a family was fined for letting their young daughter put up a lemonade stand.... That wasn't actually selling lemonade. The daughter just wanted to add a sense of normalcy to her neighborhood. $1,200.... You'll notice that's the precise amount of the handout we're getting.
Half this country is literally living a police state right now. The power to do these things aren't going back to the people. In fact, the people in these states are begging the government to further invoke these powers.
If it only took less than 1% of the population (the realistic death toll of the Chinese virus) for this many Americans to beg for their natural human rights to be taken away by the guys with the guns, that's not a pretty picture for tomorrow. What happens when "just a temporary loss of your unneeded rights" is required to stop gun deaths? To stop the spread of the seasonal flu? To stop automobile deaths?
We've already said, as a nation, that we're willing to give those rights up without question.
I’m in a red state - good point. I’m seeing more reports like you’re sharing. Totally agree it’s not cool to fine a 19 year old girl in Pennsylvania simply because she’s driving her car! Police state is not OK.
