I know someone personally who went to the hospital with shortness of breath. He has a history of heart problems. They immediately assumed it was covid and put him in a quarantined ICU. They gave him a test and it came back positive. He called everyone he knew and told them he's in the ICU with covid. For some reason they gave him another test and it came back negative. The first test was a false positive. Had he died at any point from his heart problems he would have been counted as a covid death.
Let's say my test is 99.9% accurate, pretty good right? Well let's say we want to test everyone in America just to be sure. Well 450,000 return positive. We have an epidemic on hand, clearly. Except in this hypothetical example there were only 100,000 infected in the whole nation and the rest are simply false positives. So I misdiagnosed almost 80% of people.
Which is precisely why you want to limit who you actually test - if you test everyone with any one symptom you'll end up misdiagnosing more often than not even with a near perfect tests. The tests we have are not that perfect. And while the example given can be tested twice, you are only going to test a corpse once... And that's part of the problem.

Imperial was estimating at some point earlier that if 7 billion get infected (by taking no preventative measures) 40 million would die. The crude global mortality rate is 7.7/1000, ie ~53 million deaths.
Let's be overly generous and say that 1/3 of those covid cases where outside of the "almost dead anyway" pool, so we're talking about an extra 12 million deaths worldwide, which translates to roughly an increase in 0.15% in the crude global mortality rate.
I’m sorry but this is completely stupid. I work in a ER as a registered nurse and nobody is putting down Coronavirus when people die by other causes. This is more fear lingering and fake news. I’m surprised Candice Owens falls for this crap. I work in one amid the biggest chain of hospitals in the country and have never heard of putting a cause of death down just to pad some politically motivated cause. Just use your head for a minute people. It would take coordination of thousands and thousands of people to do this. It’s not happening. Maybe in other 3rd world countries but not here. 4 more years!
