Welcome to Pennsylvania. And to make it even worse, there are cops stationed at the liquor stores across the border issuing citations for anyone crossing state lines to buy booze. How is this allowed??

Black markets become patriotism.

Every patriot's duty to learn how to avoid not evade unjust levies!

WE on this site still call it tyranny, because it is.

the dark side of States Rights...you get rogue dictators in local governments that think they know better and lock down their states for no good reason

Guessing you might know this but Interestingly enough, Gin and Tonic used to be used to prevent Malaria by the British...because tonic has small amounts of Quinine in it which Hydroxychloroquine is derived from.

Maybe I will just drink tonic as a prophylactic

2
Keln 2 points ago +2 / -0

Modern tonic doesn't have near the amounts of quinine in it that it used to. It wouldn't do anything as a prophylactic.

Buy a beer kit and start making beer. It's easy.

My kombuchas were so effervescent they popped 6 feet in the air!

My brother made me a champagne (a chef). Way better.

Practice! You might get good and go big as a brewer toward retirement nest egg.

Beer is awful. I drink until I am full and feel nothing.

Sounds like you gotta buy either wine or white claw.

Remember In December! Oh wait, that's for the Democrats, remember them in November or just as soon as the next election comes around and you have the chance to kick them to the curb.

We've had these liquor laws since Prohibition actually. I just don't know why they've never changed.

4
SomeGuyOnTheInternet 4 points ago +4 / -0

Be glad that they at least started allowing beer and wine in grocery stores a few years ago.

2
tombombadil 2 points ago +2 / -0

You guys have some of the dumbest liquor laws in the country. It’s funny because you also have some of the most lax firework laws in the country. A lot of people from my state will take a 3 hour drive to go to PA and buy fireworks every year.

Littleirishmaid 5 points ago +5 / -0

No Yuengling?

3
SomeGuyOnTheInternet 3 points ago +3 / -0

You can still get beer, that comes from beer distributors, or grocery stores, it's only the liquor stores that closed.

In other news, moonshine value strangely skyrockets in the Keystone State...

It shouldn't be allowed. Hardcore alcoholics are going to run into problems. Some of them will likely be added to covid death totals and become Democrat voters.

2
tombombadil 2 points ago +2 / -0

It’s rare but you can actually die from alcohol withdrawal. If you’re a really bad alcoholic then they recommend that you be monitored for the first 14 days of sobriety because all sorts of bad stuff can happen.

It's been illegal for as long as I can remember to bring the booze back across state lines. I live on the PA/NJ border and it's always been a concern but people sometimes do it anyway.

I agree it's very concerning, but at the very least it seems locals here in Philly (mostly liberal) aren't happy about it, so that's good.

Edit: But apparently local breweries and distilleries are allowed to stay open so some people have been going to those.

3
WalkFastGoHome 3 points ago +5 / -2

Shit, is Yuengling still coming across the border? I may need to stock up.

5
SomeGuyOnTheInternet 5 points ago +5 / -0

OP exaggerating, we can still get beer. I bought a 30 rack yesterday.

3
Leiloni 3 points ago +3 / -0

Non-essential businesses have been closed down for weeks in PA (at least people who can't work remotely) so if I had to guess I'd assume they've been shut down for a while already.

3
johnbillaby 3 points ago +3 / -0

The current governor is a cunty Democrat. You have to vote those people out, they're all terrible.

Goodness if you drive all the way from PA they probably won't check. Just the bordering states like MD and DE.

HamAteEverySnack 3 points ago +3 / -0

West Virginia borders the Southwest corner of Pennsylvania...

2
SomeGuyOnTheInternet 2 points ago +2 / -0

Can't buy the hard stuff, but I went to the beer distributor yesterday, plus luckily, we finally can can get beer and wine at the grocery store. Still bogus though, it should be considered essential, you can die of the DTs.

2
Marble68 2 points ago +2 / -0

Do they allow it to be shipped or delivered to you? There are online liquor stores.

1
AviatorHathawayBrown 1 point ago +1 / -0

Only from the state-run liquor store, and they only started taking online orders since last week or so. They can handle fewer than 200 orders a day, then they shut down the website. Today is never your day.

2

And yeah, state of PA owns them. Wait until like me a resident of PA has to pay those pensions... are we still paying the employees?

Call out to the cops and ask em if they can pick up some liquor for you.
