Please explain.

As far as I know, there wasn't any booty or spoils of war from WWII that made it worth the cost. It's not like the Allies were in the war for the plundering and even after we won, there wasn't any big payout for the victors because Europe needed to be rebuilt.

Unless you can provide some other explanation, I'm assuming anon is going along with the myth that WWII "put the USA to work" and building war equipment was "stimulating the economy". Which is what is commonly taught and believed. I'm not saying anything else about the screengrab other than anon is economically illiterate.

I believe the phrase is "seeing the forest through the trees". The implication beeing that the person's focus is so occupied by the nearest row of trees, that they can't see that an entire forest lies in front of them.
