I can see both sides to this. The captain certainly cared about his crew and wanted them safe from this virus. And his crew obviously cared about him given the send off he got. At the same time, the captain basically announced to the world that a US nuclear aircraft carrier is not battle ready, a sign of weakness. However, the secretary’s conduct with calling him stupid and the like, especially in an environment where people were upset at the captains dismissal and likely to be recording that speech, is unprofessional and demoralizing in my opinion.
What the Captain did was unacceptable and warranted his dismissal. The Navy Secretary went in dry with his comments, likely feeling defensive from the criticism of his decision and the support the crew expressed for the Captain. He definitely could have handled it better, but he really fucked up by apologizing, even though he was apparently directed to apologize. Bending the knee is pretty much always a bad idea, especially in cases like this when you have the Democrats nipping at your heels.
Yep. If the SECNAV wanted to say something to the TR sailors, he could just have told them [navy whistle noise] "This is SECNAV. Sorry we had to shitcan your captain. He was a good guy, and made a mistake. TYFYS." [/navy whistle noise]
I heard the audio. Modly’s speech is something that Trump would loathe in a subordinate because it sounded pretty beta, and it looks very, very bad on Trump.

That's IT. No need to shit on the guy.
