Captain screwed up, no denying it. It's harsh, but there isn't room for the kind of mistake he made at that level. He was in a position to know better and did the wrong thing anyway. He might still be a good man. The Navy Secretary is a traitorous snake though, and handled this about as badly as possible. Both deserve what they got, but for entirely different reasons.
This is maybe the best take of this, and for what it’s worth, I think the captain has ran his course with the Navy and thus deserves to move onto success in the private sector.
