The President innitially said mid April and it's done. NY's hospitalizations were down 75% on Tuesday from Friday. They are not going to need the hospitals they built or the ship the President sent.
I’m fine with this. I’m high risk but this applies to every infection. I will continue to take the same precautions I always take. It’s not a big deal.
I mean whenever they decide to open the country back up a small percentage of people and all of the media will complain and say the president is committing human rights violations and people are being killed because he opened it up too soon. Regardless if he opens it next week, next month, or next year. I say just pull the band aid off now and get it over with. We are doing way more harm to the country by keeping it closed, imo.
Self-interest always triumphs over anything else. This is why Capitalism is the better economic model over Socialism. Capitalism presumes self-interest while socialism presumes the exact opposite.
So your stance is 10% of America can just fuck off and die so you can go back to whatever the Fuck you were doing before this?
I'm so sorry your social life has gone to shit I really wish you were out bar hopping, randomly hooking up with your tinder matches, playing beer pong with your mates, or whatever the hell you do for fun.
But acknowledging you are a ok With 10% of the population dying because it is interrupting with the norm is not ok
OP said "get back to business" and you instantly assume they are going out to drink and indulge in hedonism . Yeah, that is logical and you're right about not needing anyone's sorrow. What you need is a fucking straight jacket and some benzos.
Acknowledging you’re ok with 100% of the population losing their jobs, savings, and everything they’ve worked for is, if I had to put a number on it, 10x worse than what you just accused him off. Grow up kid, sure we’d all love to save one life, but not at the cost of thousands. It sucks life puts you in the position to make that decision every century, but it’s either a small percentage die and the rest live, or everyone starves, oh and also 10% will die because YOU CANT STOP NATURE BUDDY.
I'm not your fucking buddy. I'm not a fucking kid. 100% of the population didn't lose their jobs. And you being ok with even one person dying shows you are a shifty person. all so you can get back to your life.
Not my fault you don’t have one. Maybe if you showed as much concern for my life as you do everyone else’s, you’d realize that being locked up all day is no existence.
Nobody's talking about going out and killing people. They're saying that it's better to risk a small group of people who already aren't likely to live long when the other alternative is ruining everybody and creating a situation that will kill far more.
Why is it more "pro-life" to starve everyone out for a generation?
"Starve everyone out for a generation" is a massive exaggeration. People are being directed to minimize interpersonal contact for a period on the order of weeks. Most are staying at home watching Netflix (or whatever) and ordering pizza, experiencing the opposite of starvation. Some are experiencing financial uncertainty, but Trump is working on aid packages to help them out.
Long-term? A recession is possible, but the economy could bounce back quickly since the fundamentals preceding COVID-19 have not changed. Plus there's nowhere better in the world to invest money than the U.S. even today.
The intent of this is to protect the health of the 16% of the population over 65 who are primarily at-risk. With a population of 327.2 million people in the United States, we're talking about 52.4 million people. If being "pro-life" includes non-fetuses to someone, being homebound for a little while isn't a big deal.
We're not sure when it's going to end, and there are people pushing for us to push this out till at least June. Most businesses aren't going to be able to handle that, either, and people and businesses that aren't bringing in money won't be paying the taxes that will make supporting everyone for an extended period of time possible. If the unemployment rate we're facing sticks around we'll be in huge trouble-- it's higher than it was during the Depression.
Why is it better to recreate something that killed more people than Corona is likely to? Someone's going to be in danger no matter what we do-- how should we decide which group potentially gets got?
It's got nothing to do with peoples social lives. Are you one of this people that thinks your electricity magically comes out of your light switch and food just appears in your refridgerator. People have to make the things, grow the food, deliver it to the stores, etc. Many young people, starting out on their lives have worked their asses to save some money to better their lives. They want to get back to work before it is all gone.
Most of the people dying have severe underlying complications and had very little time left before COVID-19. Regular flu deaths are now just lumped into the WUFLU catagory, as are a lot of the heart attacks and strokes.
To be fair, energy workers and food suppliers are considered "essential" and are working as normally as possible under the current situation.
It's low wage non-essential workers who can't work remotely, such as waitstaff, who are feeling the crunch statistically as well as the businesses who employ them. Professional-level employees, such as engineers and attorneys, usually have a means of working from home and are minimally interrupted.
My husband was an electrician I know more about ac/ dc circuits than you do. I worked in the grocery store for many years I know where food comes from. You sitting here trying to belittle me changes my mind none.
I'm one of those people with underlying complications and still goto work everyday so don't come at me like this. They had very little time left so fucking what you say. Sounds pretty heartless to me.
Here I thought you all were a caring group of people with a heart. These comments are making me change my mind about that.
This is a more pathetic version of a "you will address me as my husband's rank" type army wife lol. "I know more about ac/dc circuits than you do"? Seriously? Grow up, champ.
This isn't about comparing knowledge and dick sizes (so to speak).
If you're an at-risk person, take care of yourself. I won't go out of my way to infringe upon your right to life, just as long as you don't continue to infringe upon my right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That said, I wish you all the best health and to stay safe--I truly mean that.
Sorry, Mandy, but you must be thinking of libtards, because that's a snowflake thing to say. We don't miss partying...we miss our life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. We want to be productive and provide for our families (as the tweet says).
God bless those who have died--I hope they had their lives and spirit in order--but the shitdown was put in place because there was an expectation for 50% damage than the virus has caused.
Also, I guarantee you that the pedes around here would be first in line to help those at risk stay quarantined and make sure their needs are met.
No one is saying they want 10% of the population to die.
But we have to, at some point, take the chance unless we want to stay locked down forever. Since it can spread asymptomatically there's no way to know for sure that everyone in the country (let alone the world) is clean, so whenever things open up it may well come back. The only ways to do that are:
Let the low-risk people get sick, get over it and develop an immunity so that it can't spread or
Wait a year or two (or more) for a vaccine, and hope the vaccine works.
Continuing this complete lockdown for a full year is going to do a LOT more damage than COVID ever would. What do you think will happen when people's bank accounts go dry, and they start defaulting on their mortgages and rent payments? Lots of places are giving people a couple months grace period now, but banks and utility companies and similar can't wait forever without the whole system breaking down. And what will happen when the grocery stores start really having bare shelves, simply because no food is being grown? We're already at a little risk for lean shelves this winter, and the longer this drags on the greater that risk is, because the planting has to start happening now for the fall food supply.
Also, all signs point to having a treatment. I'm fine giving this another couple weeks to figure out the best regimen, but when you've got democrat reps in detroit saying it works, when you've got worldwide surveys of doctors saying it works, we're probably fairly close to an effective treatment. So even if the 10% get sick, they can get treated and have a good chance of recovering.
So, what's your take on when we should lift the lockdowns? What metric do you think we should be looking for?
Finally someone who doesn't talk down on me thank you. I'm following the guide lines we are giving. I will continue to do so for as long as it takes. I do not think we need to sacrifice anyone to get to the other side of this. But these comments above us got me thinking that most of these people here think it's ok to let the elderly die off so they can continue with their social lives. I can't continue on I've got to go to work. Just read their comments they don't care if I die at work today all better for them it seems
Correct. But read all the replies to the post and see the one from the smug rich guy who's having a wonderful time because he's completely financially secure and actually seeks to financially profit from all this and feels great about it.
There is just a massive disconnect happening between elitist, smug white-collars who have job security and broke, desperate, increasingly angry blue-collars and some white-collars who simply do not have job security and whose lives are getting ruined.
Don’t be a hater cause some of us are smart. I’ve posted plenty of advice on subs on how to make money off this and told all my friends my advice. If you aren’t risk savvy, don’t hate on those who are. I’m up several thousand dollars this week day trading, and crypto shot up 20% just yesterday and I made a couple grand off that as well. You have all the time in the world now, you can spend it typing up useless comments about how sad and upset you are someone made a buck, or you can sit down and start researching and learning how the world works and maybe the universe will reward your hard work
The majority of the people on a friends construction site want the jobsite shut down. I don’t understand it, my buddy is fighting to keep them employed. There’s been less than 30 deaths in this state. Foreman, Superintendent, Project Manager, contractors, all of them apparently don’t want a job.
I really don’t know what people thought would happen by choosing to proactively quit. I think it was pretty obvious at the beginning of March that this wasn’t going to be a two week lockdown.
Trump wont let that happen, and plenty of older Americans want the country to go back to normal. They aren't scared of the virus. They have lived long lives.
Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone dying from this were all the old hippies from the 60s who smoked pot and cigarettes and snorted coke for the past 30 years
I know there are a lot of Americans who are getting, or will get, economically screwed by this continued global shelter at home. I feel for all you Pedes who are in that boat. But there are some of us for which this is actually a pretty great opportunity. I'm getting to work from home where my kids are every day. I'm seeing them a lot more than I use to when I went to the office all day M-F. That is great, I'm really enjoying that. My job is very conducive to working from home (Mechanical Engineer) and my company promotes it. My wife is in healthcare and still has her job. So our incomes are safe and most likely will remain that way. We aren't going out or buying anything so we're saving money and we've cutoff all revolving monthly charges. Therefore I see this as an opportunity. Stocks are dirt cheap, so I'm buying great companies at rock-bottom prices. Real estate is another place we invest and we're expecting to see prices fall over the summer buying period as the economy screeches. That's an opportunity to buy investment property at a discount. I'm seeing a bright side for myself and I'm sure that's the case for many Pedes here as well. Stay strong and vote to MAGA. It's always darkest just before the Don.
You are such a gracious and caring person to think about your own great fortune at a time when millions are terrified about how they will keep feeding themselves.
Please make sure to send pics of your new lake house to all the people who will soon be homeless. It will definitely console them and bring warmth to their hearts :)
Glad to hear that everything is wonderful in rich-person land.
Also, it's wonderful to encounter people who are so closely in touch with the common man and definitely not elitist at all.
So very different from all the professional-class suburban Democrats in 2015.
I'm not rich. You think I'm out of touch with the common man? I grew up the lower middle-class son of a carpenter/electrician. I pounded nails and pulled wire through conduit until I was 29 when I said fuck this, this is hard work. I went back and put myself through college and graduated with my engineering degree at 35. Worked hard and smart and now I'm in my early 50's and upper middle class - not rich. I made more good decisions than bad (but plenty of bad). Now I'm in a place where this downturn is something I can ride out and maybe profit from a little because I worked hard and saved money for a rainy day like this. You want to hate on me for being successful and having the forethought to plan for times like this? You want to hate on me for pulling myself and my family up by my bootstraps and now taking advantage of lower housing prices? That sounds like something a liberal would do. Why don't you go back to Reddit and you'll find plenty of like-minded people there who want to hate on those who have worked hard, made the better choices and become successful. Hey all you young Pedes reading this: Don't be like this loser, go to college and get a degree in STEM (most all other majors are crap and useless) or go into select trades (electrical is a good one because the illegals stay away from it for the most part). Plan for a time like this in the future: own guns, stock pile ammo and have enough savings to survive no paycheck for at least 6 months. Don't be a sorry sucker and hater like this liberal-sounding tard!
Read the room before you post something like this. I'm sure the MILLIONS of people out of work right now (through no fault of their own and who are chomping at the bit to go make money) are thrilled you're all set, but look at the bigger picture.
Just wanted to chime in and say fuck the haters. Good on you for making intelligent life decisions and getting thru this like a fucking champ. I also work in healthcare and I’ve worked my ass off for no thank you for the past 6 years in hospitals and the one time I’m actually doing all right in life and people want to hate because it’s not them? Boo hoo. Cry me a River. Make better life choices. Have a more secure job. Have more savings and you too could invest and take advantage of the dirt cheap stock market. It’s not my fault you haters aren’t in that position. You have no one to blame but yourselves and your downvotes won’t empty my bank account and add to yours. Hopefully this is a wake up call to you that saving money is a lot better than buying the latest iPhone or call of duty or spending 10$ at Starbucks every day.
Almost everyone who is up shit creek financially right now is there of their own fault. Instead of living frugally and saving for a rainy day, they spend 110% of what they made and racked up credit card debt doing it. They bought fancy vacations, cars they couldn't afford, and all kinds of other BS consumer goods. No sympathy for most of you. Hopefully you learned a lesson and will change your lifestyles.
So much this. If you seriously think I give two shits about everyone in dire financial straits right now, think again. I worked my ass off, forwent a lot of things I’ve wanted over the years, didn’t buy the latest BMW and my parents always taught me to save for a rainy day. It’s basic economics. It’s the same plebs complaining about how unfair it is that successful people are rich when they don’t even acknowledge the extreme amount of hard work and sacrifice that went into building that bank account.
Fuck real estate as an investment property, way over inflated thanks to bullshit fiat. I hope monetary reform devalues the fuck out of your overpriced McMansion and inflation eats away your rental values.
Lol how bitter. I hope you get a real job and become of value to society one day instead of one that’s so useless they can just drop you like a lead balloon at the first sign of trouble.
Real estate is a bubble that is inflated with government manipulation, how about get a real job? I don't want government to print money for ANY bubbles. No bailouts, no interest free loans, no low interest rates that make too cheap of money that allows people to overborrow for shitty McMansions?
I have a real job, I actually have my own company and once covid blows over likely get back on track to hiring my first full time employee, actually producing goods for people, unlike you who is dependent on the fed keeping money cheap.
I would love mortgage rates to go back up to 10% and watch housing prices tumble.
I’m a healthcare worker. I appreciate you thoughtfulness and appreciation of the work I do in this time. I was also a blood banker in Orlando during the pulse shooting. Glad to know my work is worthless.
Being a healthworker is great! Buying real estate and perpetuating the real estate bubble for rental properties isn't productive.
Ever since we all got off the gold standard our productivity and innovation has dropped as all the bright minds go into finance to figure out how to make money by fucking the majority, as is what happens when you buy up a rental market.
Just don't come crying for a bailout when the next recession makes you underwater on your additional properties. Don't try and play that woe is me card, your healthcare work is appreciated, your speculation and getting right in bed with government meddling of the economy, is not.
You are trying to profit in an industry that is riddled with swampiness. I could've made boku bucks if I just parked my money in Lockheed and Raytheon, but I also try to coincide with a positive future than just jumping in to leech.
The real estate industry = swamp, and you're willing to just dive right in.
Oh ok. Sorry I didn’t know it was illegal to make money. I’m the one doing well, no one is crying woe is me or for a bailout. I just told you what I do for a living since you shit all over it without even knowing. Idc if you appreciate it or not, im still going to take care of you because I’m proud of what I do. I’m just pointing out what an ass you look like when you tell me I’m worthless and a sack of shit for making money. Be as moral as you want, but understand your missing out on opportunities and you can’t cry “woe is me” or for a “bailout” when you’re stuck at home with no cash because you thought you were being morally right. Especially don’t ask me since I’m such an immoral piece of shit even though I’m taking care of my family with my money. Even though I participate in my church’s many activities to help the community. No, because I made some money, my actions are moot. 🙄
You're jumping into an industry hoping to benefit off of it because the industry has ONLY been profitable due to MASSIVE Swamp behaviour.
Sure, it's legal, but don't come and try to say it's moral.
Housing prices have outgrown wage growth by 3x in the last 20yrs, how on earth is that good for the average person? No, real estate is one of the things that are being stored permanently in the pockets of the rich. While I appreciate someone getting rich, I don't appreciate someone doing it off the backs of others, which is swampy behaviour.
Have at er bud, I have no desire to tell you what you should do with your income. But, I do hope that you go bust when the market is corrected when we return to sound money and not fiat bullshit of 1% interest giving you a mortgage that you can overborrow on in order to buy properties that under any time in history would be out of your price range.
Enjoy your debt, and I'll sit back laughing while people continue to buy my products, my tangible goods, when they choose not to buy your speculative promises.
This guy fucks
But he'll have to contend with Larry 'let's just reopen the economy in mid-June' Kudlow.
Just gonna drift around through the American Southwest?
Rolling up on houses and coughing on the windows until the police arrive
We'll form the Hell's Coofs
May 1 or bugaloo
May 1 or flyover makeover

It’s literally taken everything in my power not to text her like “how’s the job hunt?”

Where is 8 weeks coming from
Larry Kudlow, this evening.
Jesus. Did the dude start smoking crack? Two more months and this country is toast.
Trump wont let that happen, and plenty of older Americans want the country to go back to normal. They aren't scared of the virus. They have lived long lives.
Old people are tough. They’ve seen lots of stuff go down and aren’t afraid of this BS.
Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone dying from this were all the old hippies from the 60s who smoked pot and cigarettes and snorted coke for the past 30 years
The left wants you dead, your kids brainwashed and raped, and your country dissolved.
Yeah, I’m done with this horse shit. April 30th had better be our return to sanity date.
Uhh April 15 is the longest I’m willing.
BUCK BUCK!!!!!!
Stay the fuck home fag

Did you think that writing this:
Was going to win you any friends?
You are such a sad person it’s pathetic
Preach Pede!
Yeah fuck you buddy.
