you will not need photoshop! everything you need will be using online tools, except for screenshotting. Most people already have that capability on their computer, but some people (like me) are riding around in computer rickshaws and do not have such fancy things. Concur that Gimp is great, and Inkscape is also really fun to use...
I’m not sure what they plan on using in the class, but there are numerous ways of making good memes. Surprisingly, Snapchat is a pretty good tool.
