He claimed it was because he didn't want to turn his back on the Kurds.
But what did history show in the end? The Kurds now have a peace treaty -of sorts- with both Turkey and Syria. OUR presence actually made things worse for everybody.
Not that there will be peace for the Kurds forever. They've only been at war with everybody in the region for, you know, hundreds of years.
