I think they said at the time he was hospitalized because his doctor wanted him to be near an ICU so he could get care quickly if he needed it. It does happen that CV patients can be feeling better and then relapse.
Also, he's the prime minister of Great Britain and there is way too much riding on his health for any chances to be taken. For that reason alone it made sense to take extra precautions.
