There is a counter-point - if you couldn't get a treatment slot for your chemo because all the beds and doctors were taken up by coufs - and you die - how do you classify it?
Cancer death? Well, if you got treatment perhaps not - but you'll never know ... because you're motherfucking dead. While dead I'm pretty sure you won't care about classifications, semantics or what Newsweek said. Because you're motherfucking dead.
then this person didn't die from covid, they died because of the response to covid
But - as you say - it is related.
It's like a disruption from an earthquake. They may not have been killed 'by' the earthquake - but the earthquake had a knock-on effect rendering services unavailable increasing the overall deaths.
I think what's more important is the net-deaths vs the gross as defined by Scott Adams who is eschewing 'reported numbers' for deaths higher than the historical average (which makes sense - if the numbers spike overall compared to the usual mortality rate - that's the actual viral impact). It's the 'extra' deaths that are of interest over and above the normal death-rate. The 'way' they died isn't as important as 'how many more died'.
But people here are saying there's been a suspicious decline in cardiac and cancer deaths, where is sauce for this?

A doctor can put whatever they want and however many things they want on one.
The complaint is that Dr Brix is telling Doctors that if the patient was symptomatic (coughing), Covid should be listed as one of the causes regardless of whether a test was performed or if they died struggling to breathe.
Leading to the poe's law: If you walk in the door with AIDS and stage 4 cancer and cough or have a fever, COVID would be on your death certificate
The joke is that this is new guidance from the US government
6 months ago, someone with AIDS and cancer that died with a sneeze wouldn't list the common cold on their death certificate.
