WTF are you all drinking?

Edit: In lieu of my frist ever sticky, I'm going to have a dram of Kinsey Rye with you fuckers

ziegenbock and Buffalo Trace, I posted a few days ago that I had to take a 50% pay cut in oil and gas and took shit from some shit bags on here. I feel you this shit sucks.

MakeAmericaGreat9 [S] 46 points ago +47 / -1

I'm going to get unemployment and hopefully the 600 extra in Trump UE and I'll be fine. Just need that shit to go through.

In the meantime, I'm highly considering going into some sort of trade when all this bullshit is over. Thinking HVAC and opening my own little place so I never have to rely on the man ever again to pay my fucking bills.

28
RuleoVicus 28 points ago +29 / -1

Personally, get into plumbing. If you have the smarts, welding (many certifications), and really smart, electrical (for masters). My opinion. HVAC is a hassle. Units always seem to fail on weekends and parts places are never open 🤣🤣

Front line entry they are all the same.

18
MakeAmericaGreat9 [S] 18 points ago +18 / -0

I was considering plumbing as well. I know I don't want to do electrical. I don't want to fucking die.

22
learntocode 22 points ago +22 / -0

I am 600 hours into residential electrical work. I love it. Unfortunately, this virus bullshit kicked me back into the poor house. Electrical with some other skills and you can provide for a family - I have seen it with my own eyes.

16
MakeAmericaGreat9 [S] 16 points ago +17 / -1

Oh I know you can. My girls father works for his brothers electrical company. His brother makes fucking sick money. Just built a 400k house for no fucking reason.

6
k24hatch 6 points ago +6 / -0

Tinknocker here.. hanging ductwork is a pretty decent living and the demand is growing as less and less people are getting into the trade. Just a thought.

Girlfriend's father I assume, I had to read it a few times too. Remember, he is slamming whisky at the moment

Electrical isnt bad. Did it in the recession as an unlicensed sub after college since most NYC hospitals were hemorrhaging money and shutting down. When your degree is in healthcare management which is largely hospital administration & business development, hospitals shutting down meant not getting hired right away and most hourly positions refused to hire people with degrees. I got lucky that I had friends that did electrical work and hurricane sandy meant people needed homes and businesses rewired. If you have a chance to do electrical I would suggest it as the field is only growing and not very dangerous. I only stopped doing it because I wanted to use my degree and started to do risk management consulting & building corporate/union (Taft-Hartley) benefits plans.

Also, a number of electricians try to save pulled wire from a site for if times get hard. This is the old wiring that would be thrown out but contains copper. They will bring it home and strip the wires for a rainy day.

1
FTR12 1 point ago +1 / -0

Before anyone jumps down my throat please understand that everything I worked on was inspected by an actual electrician. Everything was done to code and I was taught how to properly install the breakers/run bx cable and wire to code. My only issue was that if a building inspector came I had to pretend to only speak Russian (not Russian but my buddies are and I taught myself a bit to communicate with my mother in law since she sometimes starts speaking it to me until she remembers that I am not fluent) other than that great learning experience. Also spurred me to make most outlets within 5 feet of moisture gfi and to install an automatic light switch in our bathroom.

Filetsmignon 0 points ago +1 / -1

Electrical is one of the best paying trades. The work is lighter and cleaner than most others too. In addition, and this is a big and important thing to consider when looking at trades, the illegals mostly stay away from it. Reason for that is customers want experienced, licensed, legal electricians to do the work. Customers are happy to have Pedro from Mexico build their new fence or repair their HVAC. But when it comes to electrical, that if done wrong can burn down their house, they want an American that is experienced and licensed. Not to say there are no illegals doing electrical, just a lot fewer. And if you learn the safety and are careful you won't get hurt.

KekistanPM 8 points ago +8 / -0

Units always seem to fail on weekends and parts places are never open

Looks like an untapped market right there.

Also, props to trade...when you all show up at my door because I've got no AC or my toilet is making weird death noises or an electrical socket just doesn't work, and you fix the issue while making it look so easy, it makes me a very happy pede. People who think those are lowly jobs have no idea what they take in and how essential they are.

I got a cabinet full of bourbon....Gotta get the door painted before I get into the good stuff.

Buffalo Trace was my second bourbon into the sipping world. What are your thoughts? I think its a tad bit overrated.

9
nsulltan 9 points ago +9 / -0

I like it, I prefer eagle rare when I can find it. I have some four roses, eagle rare and angels envy. I’m not too picky when I’m in bourbon land but scotch I get picky just because how wildly different they are.

7
MakeAmericaGreat9 [S] 7 points ago +7 / -0

Which Four Roses? I have had their normal and the shit in the square bottle. Wasn't a fan. I'm going to give Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare another chance now that my pallet is more "sophisticated"

4
nsulltan 4 points ago +4 / -0

In the cheap times I drink the cheap drinks so I’m left with the normal bottle, I have had their single barrel but I can’t justify the cost. I like roses because it is lite enough to drink straight and cheap enough to drink with ice or chase with pickle juice if I get to far gone.

Edit I saw your drink you magnificent bastard

4
MakeAmericaGreat9 [S] 4 points ago +5 / -1

I have about 10 or so different bourbons. My go to is Elijah Craig. Fucking love the stuff man, so good.

I have found over the last few years that just a tiny bit of water is the key to making my bourbon even better. About a cap full from a bottle of water and were talking legit best ever shit.

3
Need4Pede 3 points ago +3 / -0

I don't often drink whiskey/bourbon straight. In PA our liquer stores are state owned and currently shut down. I have a shelf I'm rationing unless I do a bootleg run to Delaware or Maryland. I've heard places aren't selling to out of staters so I might be SOL. We have some distilleries I may need to find and beat on the door. Check out https://www.breakingbourbon.com. I look at this site while in the whiskey isle like a fool sometimes. Not a Makers fan but had their Makers 45 and isn't as sweet and I like it. Huge Manhattan fan so good bitters and sweet vermouth anything decent makes my lips dance and delights my senses. Also, if you drink it neat or a few drops of water, get yourself a Glencairn glass if you do not have one. I thought they were just a glass, but they really open up the smell and therefore taste of whiskeys.

2
MakeAmericaGreat9 [S] 2 points ago +3 / -1

Fellow PA pede. Southwestern PA here...

...I have a Glencarin glass...I find it to be a pain in the ass to be honest lol

2
Warren_Puffitt 2 points ago +2 / -0

My younger brother is a major whiskey fan. Always wants to see what's in the shops in my town when he visits and usually goes home with a few select bottles of bourbon and/or rye. Anyways, he told me recently that the Kentucky distillers are authorized to sell and ship to individual customers' homes during the bat flu season.

With so many brands out there I need a recommendation for a good Scotch to get my feet wet. Let's say under $60 a bottle. I've had Glenlivet French oak reserve and liked it.

Good idea having an objective before letting yourself drink more - too many times I've been like "Ah, I'll get that done after a beer or two." then it doesn't get done. Oops!

1

Curious why you hate to paint. A few of my tradesman buds also hate it but I enjoy it. They always pass the work to me.

2
FRONT_TOWARD_LEFT 2 points ago +2 / -0

Give Evan Williams 1783 a try. It is inexpensive, 86-proof, and has been my go-to (as in keep at least six handles in reserve) for over fifteen years now.

Even if you hate it, it won't break the bank. I have seen it for $11 a fifth at Total Wine in Florida.

1
WinstonSmith1984 1 point ago +1 / -0

"I got a cabinet full of bourbon"

I did, but my wife got into it! Still have about half my scotch though; she doesn't like it:)

1
Snowflakeslayer 1 point ago +1 / -0
  1. Done. It is fantastic and cheap. My go-to recommendation. For what it's worth, I am in KY and have about 50 different bourbons in my cabinet right now. 1792.

I'm not drinking, I've been on the wagon for almost 11 years : (

>Not by choice, I was sort of forced onto it

I envy people who can just have a few (I can't, and will drink everything in sight and wake up battered again with no idea what transpired over the last 12+ hours. Better yet: it takes extreme willpower every day not to do it, even knowing what the result will be.)

But have fun, be careful with your projects and don't drive anywhere <3 <3 <3

>inb4 "you must be fun at parties!" Yes. I am a blast at parties.

>They pay me to be there (not kidding.)

4
StunLikeAnAntelope 4 points ago +4 / -0

I am all for having a sense of humor, but any drinker who gives you shit for not drinking is a terrible person.

1
independentbystander 1 point ago +1 / -0

Thank you <3 <3 <3

It can be difficult, many of my "friends" are triggered that I was able to stop drinking so abruptly without going to AA and stuff. I get heavy peer-pressure frequently, but as I say it's a willpower thing and knowing what happens if I do drink keeps me on the wagon pretty well : )

I'm not down on people for drinking, I know how fun it can be if done properly <3 <3 <3

Good on ya pede, I know how hard that can be when you first get going. It took me about a year or two to not be having those days anymore where you just stand in front of the beercase staring for 5 straight minutes, internally arguing with yourself. Even now I will give the case a sideways glance sometimes, but I find that all I can remember when I stare at it now is that sick feeling. It no longer calls to me the way it used to. Been furloughed without pay for three weeks now. It sucks, but will get better soon.

Exercise. Get some housework done. Find something interesting to read up on.

Normality will resume in a couple weeks.

5
Bluestorm83 5 points ago +5 / -0

Well, I don't drink, and I still have to go to work today. Today they start temperature checks and health questionnaires before I clock in. Our schedules are automatically adjusted to pay us for the time it takes, and we can adjust further if it takes longer than the 5 minutes they estimate (which naturally it will, because Walmarts are big, and it takes 3 minutes just to walk from the Associate Only Entrance that they just set up (Garden Center) to the time clock in the back room.)

Still kinda sucks, though. I'm exhausted from all this BS, carrying the store on my back as now up to 30 people are out on leave/callout over Covid Worries. Need a damn vacation, and some fucking Hazard Pay.

2
anon1011101 2 points ago +2 / -0

My workplace has ramped up the BS to 1000%, we have all the health checks and questionnaires, and also you can be reported to your supervisor if someone observes you "violating social distancing policy" (aka closer than 6 feet to someone else). They've gone mad

2
Bluestorm83 2 points ago +2 / -0

UGH. That's insanity. I've got a neat little "Thank you for Observing Social Distance. 6 Feet Away" thing that goes behind/under my name badge. I'm going to keep wearing it for as long as I can get away with. Don't want Dipshits interrupting me at work, and we get some close-talking Potato People some times...

Drakes Brewing Co Denogginizer double IPA. 9.75%

Been gaming with friends and practicing social distancing... from many many miles away for almost a full month now. Thankfully my company is keeping the paychecks coming but I'm not sure for how much longer especially considering I literally haven't been to work throughout this entire time..

Just moved to PA recently, WTF with the state run liquor stores? I don't get that at all.

1
rbobjones69 1 point ago +1 / -0

Neither does anyone else. It was created by governor Gifford Pinchot. This from wikipedia: After the repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment, Pinchot helped establish the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board; his philosophy was to "discourage the purchase of alcoholic beverages by making it as inconvenient and expensive as possible."

Unfortunately, democrats got control and it has been a source of political patronage ever since and a guaranteed source of votes.

I'm a black velvet and diet coke man (used to steal from my parents). Black velvet is cheap and strong whiskey, diet coke is crisper than regular coke which is more syrupy. And you can smoke a bowl to balance it out

Nah, weed for me. I always smoke some weed after work. Otherwise, Stella Artios beer.

Also, I'm gonna paint a door. I don't see how that could go wrong.

Just don't order paint from Amazon if you expect it to get here sooner than a month. If it's an unprotected exterior door, have fun waiting for it to stop raining for longer than 2 days.

Shiner Bock here.

Good money to be made in stocks right now if you've got some extra coin you can gamble with.
