This is setting up such a bad precedent...every time the world gets shaken up businesses are going to be lining up for their government dole out. Why do we give these corporations anything? This is not capitalism!

Neither is forcing them to shut down their business in a show of nanny state force

If the government takes my property for the public good, they are required to pay me for it. If the government shuts down my business and tanks any chance I have of creating revenue, they should be required to pay me for hurting me for the public good just the same.

If the government is the cause of a problem, they should need to pay restitution, not leave destruction in their wake.

Well, but that's what governments always do. Even if they pay restitution, other people will pay for it. The government has no money. All its money comes from (future) tax payers.

Governments will never do good, and are naturally prone to turn into the swamp. Draining the swamp is just step one of many.

Even if they pay restitution, other people will pay for it.

If I say "Your taxes last year paid for your own restitution this year" would it be better? Wasn't it what the taxes are for? For state of emergency like Pandemics?

Restitution are bad when they're used frivolusly and when they evidently favour one group over another based purely on identity and not based on merit or what they do, like when some far Left black people demands restitution for slavery or when some College kids demands Universal Income before they ever earn a single dime.

The loss of value in my 401K is every bit as important a loss as any loss a business or airline has suffered.

They are going to take from our children's pockets to pay our restitutions...government should not have been able to shut us down in the first place this was a big expansion of powers. Very un-American

Well said. There is no excuse.

I understand where you're coming from but in this event, the government's actions are affecting these company's ability to conduct business.

What's different and unprecedented here is that this was all a deliberate economic halt and not part of grand cycle. That's the way I see it anyway

No one is allowed to fail anymore and it starts at a young age. That why under the best economy ever 79% of people live paycheck to paycheck.

Exactly. All these issues are primarily cultural, not political.

To reference an underestimated man: we give in more and more each year to the soft bigotry of low expectations, and then we wonder why everything is still pretty fucky even in Freedomland.

Not sure what you're reasoning is, but a lot of why people live by paycheck is personal choices.

I wouldn't call a business closure due to government mandated shutdown a failure.

And people living paycheck to paycheck is in many cases by choice. Rather than save money, they buy a tv or a boat or expensive clothes.

Correct. We all, at least on this side of the argument, know that they do it by choice because mommy government will help them.

Thanks for the suggestion. Since we are stuck at home until at least May 4th with no hockey, I guess I have the time to binge watch a few shows!
