Governor Abbot is taking the lead. The Governors shut it down, the Governers will open it up.

Leave Trump out of it.

Trump cares about the constitution - let the states decide

Yup - GOP gov where I am - we're already taking the foot off the breaks in stages starting now.

If you have a DNC gov - you're fucked - perhaps you should vote for the other side for a change instead of screaming 'orange man bad' day after day. You could pay your rent - which in CA is fucking insane.

I'm right here. sigh. well, we have a Dem governor but majority republican legislature so they sorta keep things from swinging too far in the wrong direction. But our state gov is in constant gridlock.

They'll claim every single death for any reason whatsoever is his fault whenever he does anyway, might as well open it up - unless there are other things going on in the meantime that are best done under the radar.

State Governors have that authority. Trump acted Federally, and has said all along, the Federal Government is a backstop only. The States must decide what is best for them.

I don’t understand—do people here believe COVID is a hoax? Or is it the most deadly thing ever? I’ve seen both extremes lately, and am having a hard time reading where pedes stand on this.

Both those extremes are idiots. Just as the "most deadly thing ever" bots were coddled on sites like this a while back, now the "COVID is a hoax" guys are.

Most sane people are looking for a reasonable balance between being safe, but not being locked-in and closed down.

People here have opinions across the spectrum. My personal belief is that the Kung Flu is real, and that it was made in the Wuhan level 4 research facility. I have yet to form a firm opinion as to whether it was intentionally or mistakenly released.

I do not see it as the “most deadly thing ever”, but I do think it had the potential to be as bad as the Spanish Flu. I believe the modeling from the IHME, which has dictated most of our public response actions, has been very off and misinformed.

I believe the federal administration has handled the situation well, but certain states have managed it poorly. I believe we are at a point of control over the situation, and a prolonged semi-closure of the economy, as we have today, will cause more harm than good. I am hoping most of the country is back up in the next couple weeks.
