The lockdown is entirely state and local governments. They make sure it hurts and the media makes sure President Trump takes the blame.
There is a world of difference between advising people to stay at home if they can and threatening people with criminal prosecution for exercising their rights. President Trump has not told anyone they are not allowed to go to church, or go to work, or run their business, or buy specific items not required for essential services.
This is NOT President Trump's lock down.
People need to look at the long game on this. Trump sets out pretty draconian suggestions on how the states should act and then gives them all the rope they need to hang themselves this November by letting them go waaaay overboard on the responses because they think they can hurt Trump by crashing the economy. States like michigan are going to flip red because even the D's are starting to wonder what the fuck is going on with the ever increasing lockdowns that are starting to effect THEM and they don't like it. Think of this crisis as a socialist primer on what happens when you give leadership too much power. Texas is going to open back up next week and I can only see more states following that example which will eventually force the out of control blue states to reign it in or look like complete totalitarians. Big media fights are about to break out over this so grab the popcorn its gonna git gud.
But he never once said any of it should be mandatory and he never once suggested that those who defy them should be rounded up and arrested then put on shame lists. If the media tries to attack him over it he can simply say hey I was appealing to the better nature of our citizens to save lives and the governors decided to turn it into a power grab. No way in hell will Trump lose that fight especially since the public knows what he means and they know the govs are badly overreaching just to hurt Trump and solidify their postitions. It's already blowing up in their faces.
