Allthough it was never enforced or total I believe that Hollywood had a monopoly not only on movies but on culture up until the last 30 years.
There is a massive diminishing effect on the power of Hollywood in recent years. True, people like us left the market because we were tired of the propaganda, but they were being bled slowly even before that.
The invention of the digital camera lowered the barriers to entry allowing individuals to become indie producers. The late 80s early 90s saw more indis than any period before. And that was before the movie tech democratisation that occurred in the early 2000s.
Now kids can go onto a free website and get special effect packets equivalent to early 90s cg, for free, with the click of a button. Better, if they are willing to work.
All this to say the market suddenly had an influx of creative, unrestricted, out of bubble content for the public to consume. At the same time India, Germany, China, Australia, Canada, and south Africa all made pushes to encourage local film makers.
This took not only the market share, which hurt but was survivable, but cultural control. If everyone at the studios agree that a certain viewpoint is not gonna appear in film, it won't. Because they all know each other, work in the same town, and so on. The culture couldn't evolve without them.
I want you to think about how that would affect you. If you had the power to not only affect everyone you talk to. Not just everyone you meet. But millions of people. And have them thank you for it with money, prizes, and fame.
I bet you would do almost anything to hold onto that feeling. I would too. So what do you do when the worst thing that can happen to you isn't a flop (several director's have had their flops become their most successful films in terms of cultural penetration and fame generated), it's a boring one. One that doesn't get integrated into that sweet sweet zeitgeist.
Well, you find the ones that will see your garbage fire regardless of quality so long as it caters to their needs.
And so the fans don't matter. Because there has been better star wars content outside of the movies for decades. Because terminator was satisfactorily ended. Because our expectations have risen faster than they can keep up.
So, fuck us, right? If were not gonna let their flashy drivel infect our thinking and become a permanent fixture in our perception of the world then we are unnecessary. They will court the ones that will.
And so the lowest common denominator was found. Rabid identitarians who view the propaganda not only as important but more important than the film. The will prominently and publicly claim not only that the movie people are still important and brave, but that this film will be a defining moment in the minds of children everywhere. And, Hollywood keeps a hand on at least a portion of the worlds culture.
So they continue to make movies we hate. They continue to get further and further left so they can feel like they are still the leaders rather than a dinosaur failing to keep up. They are double, triple, and quadrupling down hopping, praying, that the culture blinks first and they can take their 'rightful' place at the head of the table again.
But I feel that my hand is a bit more solid than theirs. So I'll see their bet. And in a few years when the final turn happens, we are all gonna see they've been playing with a 4 and a 9 the whole time.
So to quote the great line in saving private Ryan
Dont shoot, Let em burn
We need videos and films demanding the quarantine be ended!!!⚾
