Make Amazon pay for all the packages they dump on the USPS. Problem solved.

It's not just Amazon. The other delivery services dump packages on USPS that aren't profitable for them to deliver. Mostly packages destined for rural routes and small towns. China also still gets the UN developing economy discount from USPS.

Which is so wrong and should be stopped. They are the second biggest economy in the world

Trump already did stop it, but it won't go into effect until I think next year.

China shouldn't get a discount on anything. And USPS should not be delivering packages for anyone, and if they do they should be compensated beyond their costs. And the postal workers should get a bonus for packages delivered.

The post office is a slush fund for Congress. Heres how it works:

When a new postal employee is hired, even as a temp, their full pension and benefits must be funded in full immediately. This fund must then be put into an account that Congress has access to and regularly raids.

That's the reason it's still open. Money laundering for congressional pet projects

USPS needs to raise the rates they charge Amazon and negotiate with Congress to eliminate the requirement that they prefund their pension obligations.

How about we start by not subsidizing amazon packages.

A functional national post service will always be necessary, at least to some degree, but the way the USPS is handled and the laws around it are complete shit. USPS either needs to get their shit in order, or be shut down and replaced entirely.

I have mixed feeling about privatizing the mail. I generally trust corporations to not fuck up as much as the government, especially in terms of spying and bullshit 'can't sue us now ha ha' legal disclaimers.

Aside from that, ensuring a postal service is literally one of the few, few things that the Constitution provides the Government to do. It's the duty of the government to ensure that Americans have access to safe, swift, and secure communication. Pushing that duty onto someone else follows in the footsteps of the Fed with our banking, and will probably end the same way. Quite frankly, fuck that corrupt nonsense. I'd rather it be an expense, but one with a strict mission, budget, and guidelines of the highest of standards.

No, I'm a Constitutionalist. There are some things that the Free Market can add onto (such as UPS and FedEx), but SHOULDN'T take over. National defense, banking, and mail are the 3 big ones.

Be American and understand why the Government should be in control of these things, instead of knee-jerk anti-gov reactions.

I'd suggest you don't act like a """liberal""" and ignore our well thought out Constitution.

how the hell is does the postal service need a bailout? Right now is the prime time of history for them to be making a profit.
