I thought it was approved by tithe fda.

It was only approved by the FDA for serious or life-threatening cases https://www.pharmacytimes.com/news/fda-announces-two-drugs-approved-for-compassionate-use-in-treating-covid-19

Unfortunately, in NY that means you have to be in the ICU before you can get it.

And yet the very article above states that the FDA has not cleared it for use at all, under any circumstances....

They really have no limits to their stupidity

Can we sue these people for publishing false information?

They will just retract in a small hardly noticed blurb sometime in the future. No accountability in media, you can literally lie all you want.

This is true. My friend in upstate NY is in his 40s and has had a fever since last Saturday and a COVID-19 diagnosis confirmed on Wednesday. His doctors refuse to prescribe HCQ-AZ. First they told him that they, "weren't sold on it yet" and then told him, "no one's going to write a prescription for it".

This shit makes me so mad. He told me he'd be willing to try anything at this point. Does he not have the right to try?

I'd sue docs when this is over. Do no harm is their motto Nd they do way too much harm.

Ugh. No can do. Part of government order is immunity to Pharma, hospitals, doctors.

Cuomo's executive order stopped all early treatment in NY on March 23. "No pharmacist shall dispense hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine except when written as prescribed for an FDA-approved indication; or as part of a state approved clinical trial related to COVID-19 for a patient who has tested positive for COVID-19, with such test result documented as part of the prescription. No other experimental or prophylactic use shall be permitted, and any permitted prescription is limited to one fourteen day prescription with no refills." https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/no-20210-continuing-temporary-suspension-and-modification-laws-relating-disaster-emergency

What the fuck? They really hate Trump more than their own citizens?

Five family members in NY have had Covid so far. One right now is my 97 year old aunt in a nursing home. My son knows someone where he once worked that’s now in a coma from it. What happened to the right to try law? These dems are getting in the people’s way.

Who is the doctor? Sounds like first your friend needs to go find another doctor, and then report the doctor to the medical board. Is it possible to contact Dr. Zelenko? He has been prescribing it even before tests for the coronavirus comes back.

Also, the Dr Smith that has been on Laura Ingraham's show. He is in NY state. He has a clinic of some sort.

The FDA like all parts of the permanent bureaucracy has a virulent hatred of Donald Trump. They have only approved of the drug for situations of life endangerment

The whole Federal government is infested with Beltway Socialists. They have very low productivity.

The FDA desperately needs to be broken up. The FDA should focus on drug safety and drug interactions only, leave the efficacy up to the doctors discretion. By having the FDA approve every drug for every disease it may be helpful for is what drives up pharmaceutical prices and runs out the clock on drug patents. If it was up to me I would have the FDA strictly for “if we put this in a person will they die” and move the responsibility for testing efficacy to a private rating agency similar to the BBB. This would give the power back to doctors to use their experience to prescribe safe drugs and develop effective treatments. This would also allow patients and doctors to make informed decisions on what to take and what to prescribe. This would make doctors more valuable and at the same time halve the cost and development time for new drugs.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the FDA is filled to the brim with useless, lazy desk jockeys who have fat benefits and cushy well paying jobs. Typical of most bloated federal outfits. Disband and start over.

NPR is right.

Hydroxycholorquine was not approved by the DNC.

I have an idea, save the drug for patriots, don't let the liberals have an untested drug.

More trials?

Something that could have been stopped over a couple of months. Is going to be dragged out for months on end.

They just want us to die. I've never seen a more obstructionist bunch of officials who apparently don’t give a rat's ass about what people want, especially when it’s their life we are talking about. But, you and I know these same officials will be the first ones to take it if they need it. A lot of people are getting fed up with this BS.

It's proven - I'd add "not against a control group" but that wouldn't be true - look at all the people who died without even trying it.
