Some really uncomfortable Governors squirming in their seats while our SoS gives what would generally be considered a fairly boilerplate speech (ie, we have foreign enemies, be careful with that kind of thing, realize they have press and oppo research too, etc.).

Also, that "list" is literally meaningless, sorry everybody: so the Chinese Government claims things or whatever, who cares? What, are we acting like this is anything like "admissible evidence"?

The important thing here is the reaction to the idea that they're on a list from Chyna. It wasn't horror, or even jovial pleasure at making a Commie's list somewhere, but nervousness and concern, like it was some existential threat.

There's no reason to react like that unless they've been doing unseemly deals with groups they knew were questionable, whether they did it with purpose and malice or by blindly agreeing and hoping for the best.
