But he also said on the Daily NYT podcast on 2nd of April
“I think he [Trump] always understood the seriousness of it. Right now as the numbers are becoming crystal clear, he himself is articulating an awareness of that seriousness”
Fauci ain't the one to aim your arrows at. Aim them at the media unless the President relieves Fauci of his duties. The media is DESPERATE to turn Fauci into one of their attack pawns. They would love nothing more than to have him on their side.
Fauci couldn't just lie about Trump every time he opened his mouth (he might have been fired a long time ago if he did), he had to come up with some praise too, even if subtle praise, but Fauci did/does LIE. Whether it is to try and cover his ass or to help the Dems, I don't know, but the fact is that he lies.
He did it on MSNBC too, when being interviewed by Al Sharpton.
He said that, in mid January, it was clear that the coronavirus would be a "major problem," and he warned the administration (Trump) of that. This is a lie that contradicts his public statements at least up to March 9th, when he was still encouraging "healthy" people to go on cruises.
You forgot this one from February 29th.

Here is a comment I wrote that is mostly about what he said to Sharpton on MSNBC:
