First, I'm an atheist myself. So, I'm not expressly attacking atheists in general. Just wanted to say: behind every rabid socialist, there is a once good Christian child who lost God and replaced him with government. In the absence of God they are free to lie to push their agenda "For the greater good!". They are the the final authority on morality. God cannot judge them, only they can. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" and they have the absolute best intentions. The more I realize this, the more I wish I were more religious.

Politics is downstream of culture, and a major component of culture is religion. You cannot uproot religion without dramatically altering the cultural and political landscape, and it's usually not for the better.

There's a reason why totalitarian governments and political movements crack down on religious belief, whether than means abolishing some or all of them: totalitarians cannot afford to have people's allegiance be to a competing system of values. They cannot survive if people cling to moral absolutes other than those the government creates for them.

It's actually true stupidity and total cognitive dissonance. I've been punishing socialists on social media for days now with this in mind. They've lost Jesus but continue to spread his message in a foul manner. It takes a while to notice, but they are trying to force their version of the golden rule and pseudo-Christian morality through totalitarianism. Whip out the idea on one and they'll most likely squirm. It's pathetic and funny.

It is exactly this.

Glad to hear it. I think it's in man's nature to have God or a god. If they don't have one they'll find one without realizing it in most cases. I'm honestly on the fence right now, whereas before I wasn't even near it. I might just need something personal to give a bit of faith in God to knock me over to the other side. Who knows.

Not at all familiar with him but I'm setting a bookmark and checking him out later. Thanks!

Welcome fren.

Do you believe in the Natural Law? The idea that what's right and wrong is not a human made up idea, but a real, true, external reality.

The study of ethics then becomes the study this external reality, much as the study of electromagnetism is the study of an external reality.

It's almost impossible to be a human being and not believe in the Natural Law. Not that we agree what it is, but we all agree it's out there.

The greatest explanation I've read of this is C. S. Lewis's Mere Christianity, first 1-4 chapters. TL;DR the example of me walking down the aisle and

  1. someone accidentally trips me. I am upset, but I don't blame them really. Even though they caused me harm.

  2. someone intentionally tries to trip me, but fails to do so. I believe they have done a greater wrong, even tho they have not harmed me.

That's because we all sense that one "ought" to not do that. Everyone has that sense of "ought" in them. It's almost impossible to be human without it. Leftists are saturated with "ought" altho they're woefully unaware and/or self-conflicted about it.

I agree. I think genuine evil is trying to take over our societies, and I think Christianity is the weapon needed to fight it. But I’ve tried attending church and I’m just not a believer, not going to fake it if I don’t feel it. But I wish I did.

yeah. My whole thing with religion is I don't buy it. I'm not an activist, but I have my own beliefs on the subject.

With that said, all religions are not the same.

There's only one religion that tells its people that spontaneous exploding in crowded areas will give you a better afterlife.

And it's not Judaism or Christianity.

I’m a Christian, I myself am nothing special -to borrow from my mother’s description of someone talking about salvation: I’m merely a beggar pointing out where I’ve found the bread.
This may sound cliche and you may disagree but I firmly believe that we are all born with a God-sized hole inside of us that cannot be filled with anything else, its existence is there to bring us into relationship with God, into peace, into joy, into salvation -anything less than Him just keeps us searching (or replacing it with poor substitutes, such as govt. as OP pointed out). I believe that atheists, agnostics, etc do not offend God (nor me) as they pursue truth...He is big enough to be doubted, to be challenged, to be questioned. Yet so many of us have been hurt, abandoned, or wounded terribly...ultimately so many have been put off from even the pursuit of Him by the failings we see of those around us, by those who brought us up, or those who came up with us, or those who are around us now. Anyone reading this though, I just want to say, don’t ever give up the pursuit.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” -Matthew 7:7

Your belief system makes up the paradigm through which you view the world

No matter the name of the god, or the absence of a name

I agree

How do you wake people up

Great question. If I ever find out, I'll post the exact text or a transcript of the conversation. I've become good at making them shut up, but no one has told me they woke up. They haven't replaced religion with atheism, they've adopted socialism as their atheist religion big difference.

It's tough to force a change in devout beliefs. The brain resists it heartily. I wonder if I have ever changed anyone's mind. If I have there's never been any confirmation. I think you need trust to do that and that's difficult when debating random tards on the Internet to be honest.

The socialists have changed my mind on several issues though. The problems they cite are real like the wealth gap, issues with billionaires (by extension mega-crops and conglomerates), and problems with US healthcare. I've come to understand they've found some of the right problems, but the entirely wrong solutions.

Never too late. It often takes a catastrophe for ego to break… if you are lucky.

It's not just self-professed atheists. The dopey Marxist antipope is leading the charge in Rome.
