I don't think most people understand what really happens when you go on a ventilator. I had no idea until I read about it. It's pretty damn invasive and there can be complications that continue for life.

I've also read that keeping patients on their back is an issue and they should be lying prone.

This is the wild west of medicine right now.

Interestingly there was a similar conversation around the original SARS. They were talking about how scary the disease was because those who got it and survived still exhibited lung damage. However we're starting to consider the possibility that the lung damage was caused not by the disease but by the venerator which may not have even been necessary.

There was lots of discussion of putting patients, especially overweight ones, in the prone position early on, but it completely disappeared.
