Well there's always a part of the population that wouldn't work if they didn't need to.
Even the propaganda for UBI states that about 20% of the population would simply stop working....
And then when I comment on those propaganda videos saying "So you're going to make the rest of the population work 20% harder to pick up the slack?" I get attacked haha.
I remember back when I was a hardcore lefty, watching this youtube movie and it was basically a couple hour long rant about how evil capitalism and the modern banking system are.
At the end they proposed a 'new' society where we all lived in communes and all owned the land and didn't rely on money and bartered everything. Where everyone would voluntarily work the jobs required and everyone would rotate so nobody got stuck with a bad job for too long.
Even at the height of my leftism and brainwashing... i laughed at the screen thinking how retarded can these people be? I thought of a nuclear engineer rotating to clean toilets with my unemployed brother-in-law who lives with his parents at the age of 32 and says his full time job is "staying sober" (he's completely serious too)... and thought, this has absolutely zero percent chance of working in any realistic or practical way... or hell, even in fantasy land.. it still sounds like a terrible system to live in.
Also what the fuck would a nuclear engineer barter exactly?
And would that mean a pencil factory worker would be paid in pencils?
The Idea works on paper, that's why it's so appealing to some people. But when you actually look at the nitty gritty it fails on every level.
At most it can work on the very small scale, maybe a dozen people or so, after that you start to need an armed bloated government to tell everyone what to do.

Exactly, Molyneaux said it best: "Socialism is the opiate of the intellectual"
