In all fairness, they’ve called all the Republican candidates Hitler for a while, going back decades. Even they admit that. I’m not sure why they thought it would suddenly be truer or work this time. You can see their ads comparing all the others to Hitler. Everybody they don’t like is suddenly ‘literally’ Hitler.
Yet their actions, of informing on neighbors and friends, show who the real little Hitlers are. You don't see conservatives and libertarians turning themselves into the Gestapo and policing other people.
Not because of the scene on the stairs with the music that Reddit kept gushing over like a modern art analyst wanting to be trendy either.
That one scene was just a small part of the movie - not a particularly inspiring one either (although it was cool to see the actual Joker) but it made up 95% of the hype.
Not a bad scene mind you, it just totally made me think of the try hards who just wanted to focus on their lame /r/movies memes and photo ops and repeat each other's emotional cliches ad nauseum.
I like Joker because it is very subtle about a number of themes without being preachy. Unlike the usual social commentary it isn't thrown in your face.
1: Mental health is severely under recognized and doesn't have sufficient support structures.
2: The media are vultures who feast of death and violence inflaming sentiments without remorse or accountability.
3: It would serve us all to be a little kinder to each other. A person with nowhere left to fall will lash out in unpredictable ways.
All of these "lefty" arguments all the communists were touting were in the movie but never felt like they took a political side. The most telling part being Wayne running for office and the left thinking it was a reference to Trump... but it actually being a reference to Hillary and her infamous "deplorables" line mirrored by Wayne's "clowns" comment.
Overall I didn't really enjoy the movie mostly because to me it felt very predictable. Like 6/10 on the enjoyment scale. But it got a 10/10 on social commentary.
As disgusting as the media shitshow has become, I'm almost glad of it. People finally get the see the media go full on woke activism. Anyone catch the recent CNN chyrons? I can't believe anyone who is not mentally retarded thinks this is okay. They must be putting off a lot of people to be polling as badly as they are.
