Controlling the ports is irrelevant.

The US is NOT a trading country. We grow our own food and produce our own energy. We don't need imports of life essentials from overseas.

Also, as a % of GDP, the US is the country least dependent on exports in the developed world. Only 8% of our GDP is from exports, and half of that is within the USMCA. Compare that to China and Germany, for whom exports are 40% and 50% of their respective GDP.

US food and energy production is in the heartland, and transported by the Mississipi river network. The blue states want to eat, have power and gasoline? Red states have ALL the leverage.
