I believe the common denominator is that most, if not all are spending all the free time watching CNN and getting panicky every time they Announce any new information and spend the next two hours hyping up that to make it seem like if you don’t panic and do what they say you will die or killed 300 other people near you.
I think many people are concerned about the virus (some certainly aren’t). I certainly am. I have asthma, I have 4 grandparents with underlying health conditions. My parents are vulnerable. However, I believe there are much better ways of dealing with this situation that don’t involve shutting down the entire country. It does not merit panic nor hysteria. If Trump weren’t President I would be much more concerned about the current situation. Knowing that he wants to get things back to normal and will do everything within his power to do that is reassuring. The cure can’t be worse than the problem. The constitution still exists during a pandemic.
Maybe it is because of my location (MN) but I am not very concerned at all. I wash my hands. I take precautions. I look at stats. MN has tested thousands of people. Around 1,600 in a state of 5.7 million have tested positive. Of those many are recovered and only 79 have died. Out of 5.7 million people there are currently 707 people with the virus in our state. Statistically, that is a very low percentage. So I try to keep that in perspective.
I mean 79 out of 1,600 is kind of a lot when you extend that mortality rate to the larger population... Granted, the denominator is probably much larger than 1,600. Several studies have shown that 50-75% of cases are asymptomatic. We need more data. But still, for people who are symptomatic, it’s clearly much worse than the flu (might get some hate for that on here, but it’s true). Still not a reason to implement these draconian measures.
I personally think mass (voluntary) testing as well as encouraging (voluntary) social distancing, hand washing, mask wearing, etc. is the way to go. Also, recommending that the elderly and people with underlying conditions stay at home is important.
I think it’s a bit foolish to not take the virus seriously nor be reasonably concerned, but that’s just me 🤷🏼♂️

Have older/vulnerable/high risk individuals self quarantine as they feel necessary. Allow everyone else to return to work. Take extra precautions-stores can continue extra cleaning. People can take their own precautions-wash hands, stay home when sick, use hand sanitizer, don't share water bottles at hockey practice...you know, the basics of good hygiene and common sense.

But at a certain point, it’s the government’s job to collect data, inform the public, and then let the private sector handle the rest. People have to maintain their civil liberties. It sounds like we mostly agree.
I would just caution people not to delude themselves into thinking the virus isn’t serious because most people who die have underlying conditions. So many people in this country have underlying conditions (obesity, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, etc.), so it is concerning. My question would be what percentage of people who have underlying conditions who also get coronavirus die? That’s a different question than how many people who die from coronavirus have underlying conditions (the stat you provided).
Again, none of this is to say the government needs to shut everything down. It’s unlawful and anti-liberty.
I live in The Swamp where 90% of the population is leftists. I would say about 40% of them are living in constant fear which is actually surprising considering that they have TDS as an underlying condition.
