God sent poisonous snakes to torment Israel. Then he told Moses to raise a brazen serpent on a pole -- the origins of the universal symbol of medicine.

All people had to do was look at the serpent and they would be healed.

A lot of people died that day.

Yeah. I can't count how many times I've read that, but missed the point you so beautifully and succinctly make. People are so arrogant and prideful, they won't even look to save their lives.

And when such people die? No loss.
