To be fair these places are massive, America is a big place, Rhode Island is practically up Massachusetts' behind but I drive from where I live there to see my Aunt and Uncle to Winchendon, Massachusetts and that's 2 hours easy
No, I just wanted to provide a real world example in which case a trip normally perceived by stereotypes (Rhode Island being super close to Massachusetts) to be very short and neighboring can actually be pretty far. It's also the same time frame you described, so I thought it would be a good example. No worries here it's just my opinion, I won't defend my opinion with my life or anything lol
Michigan has Ontario between it and NY. (Minimum ~175 miles)
Maryland has Pennsylvania (or NJ & DE) between it and NY. (Minimum ~125 miles)
A two hour drive isn't neighboring.
