My son is currently in college. If colleges don’t go back in the classroom soon, many students will not be back until they resume normal operations.
Students aren’t paying big money to sit in their rooms on computers watching videos and doing work online. They want the in class experience, interaction with professors and classmates, lab work, social interaction with other students, use of the library.
This semester has been a bust. They refund housing and meal plan fees, but where is the refund for students activities (there are none) and transportation fees (there are no shuttles running) and all those other fees students are required to pay...
All students were abruptly sent home for a virus with a high recovery rate. They should have stayed on campus and built herd immunity.
I have one graduating (4 years on time, yeah!), one was graduating hs and starting summer, and one coming back for soph year in the fall. They really screwed these kids, for something most of them prob already had. All three and my wife had flu symtoms in late jan, early feb and were in bed for 2-3 days. We are within a few hours of nyc, nj, and philly, and because of that interact with many who live there.
Im sure they had it. The tests are really stupid and wont accomplish anything but im anxious to see how many have been infected and didnt know it. Im willing to bet its upwards of 30-50%. How are they gonna spin that? It probably explains why their projections were way off. Which would mean not seeking that info early, means that they suck at projections even more.
So my kids all go to the same college, big school, small town, very isolated. The pitch in kicking them out was, the kids will be fine, but hospital small, muh overwhelm. Yeah, if half didnt already have it...
We pay a shit ton of money, and those fuckers haven’t offered anything. My oldest rents off campus, and even his big shyster landlord offered a one month forgiveness. School nothing. They already charge full price for online classes. In fact most students take at least some online out of necessity because they are pushing it that way, so THE SCHOOL saves money, that doesn’t get passed on.
This thing has exposed so many critical things that trump needs to address in his second term.
Is your graduating student going to get a graduation ceremony?
It's infuriating how these students are getting shortchanged. The MSM is making everyone think they will die from this, but the reality is that most people have mild symptoms and recover. There was no reason to send students home from all over the country. I am in MN. We have a population of 5.7 million. We've had under 2,000 positive cases. Of those, we've had under 100 deaths. That is such a miniscule percentage. And of the deaths, the median age was 87 and 98.5% had pre-existing conditions. A large majority lived in assisted living facilities.
Instead of sending students home and closing down colleges and schools, we should have simply locked down assisted living facilities and encouraged the elderly to stay home.
It's awful what they are doing to young people right now. Not to mention the 22 million Americans that have lost their jobs over this.
You are absolutely right about quarantining those who are at high risk. Its obvious. Now the bar is you have to have had it to go back to work. Meaning, you have to get it to be cleared. Or wait 18 months for the miracle vaccine that will be obsolete by next flu season. Now that the precedent is to save every life, we have to close down every flu season.
It doesnt add up at all. This is intentionally bring done. People need to wake up and not be afraid to say the reaction to this is bullshit. We need to collectively acknowledge that compromised individuals die every flu season in large numbers. We will do everything to protect them, as it should be, but thats it. We do not force people to do things for the protection of others.
If the govt was really interested saving lives, they could do it way more cost effectively than saving 80 year old shut ins.
