The original intent of social distancing, of 15 days to slow the spread, was to flatten the curve in such a way that it does not overwhelm the hospitals, to where they will be prepared for the people coming in. Well, now we’re seeing empty hospitals, and hospitals furloughing staff. I think we achieved our initial goal, yeah.
But now it’s pushed back to “never ever get sick again, stay locked down until there are 0 deaths”. That’s dangerous, irrational, and unhealthy. It makes it last LONGER. We need to develop herd immunity, let the virus run its course. Social distancing for months at a time will slow it to the point that it will never really go away. We’ve long passed the point of diminishing returns. Further distancing will cause nothing but more damage.
