It makes sense but so many leftists don't see the link between authoritarian view points and the left. This despite Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot etc.
Here is the thing - if you believe the good of the collective trumps any individual rights - individual rights simply do not exist. Why? Because these two things are always in conflict - always.
Want to keep the money you earn? Want to end homelessness via taxation. Conflict.
Want to drive to work? Want to fix the environment? Conflict.
Want to prevent the spread of a cold - want to go to work? Conflict.
What leftists have been doing is paying lip service to individual rights however when there is an actual conflict - individual right are not just thrown out - they don't even enter the THINKING of the leftist.
This is because for a leftist the good of the collective is their moral value. They do not believe in treating others how they would want to be treated. Anything they dream up that is "good" for the collective is morally right. Any action that does not help the collective is morally wrong.
This means that dictators like Whitmer are "good" people - for leftists they are. What is important is that we call these guys out. Make them choose a side. They can be leftist dictators - or they can be Americans.
Those two things are not the same.. America is supposed to be the land where the individual rights are paramount.
