Yeah, I'm in OH and I'm sick of all DeWine's bullshit. He's not as bad as some of the other states, but I still feel he is overreaching his authority.

4

Yep. Amy Acton is driving his bus.

10
smartredditor 10 points ago +12 / -2

DeWine took a good middle of the road approach. His "stay at home order" effectively let business owners determine if their business is essential or not. He acted very early.

Compare him to the lady up north in Michigan, who has gone full Stalin but procrastinated. Michigan has 2,000,000 fewer people than Ohio has, yet has 4X as many cases and 5X as many deaths.

4
stjimmy92 4 points ago +4 / -0

My only complaint is that he left a couple things too open. When he asked businesses to limit the number of people inside at a time, the one I work at set out limit to 900 people at a time. We’ve never had near that many in the store at one time, so it’s basically a joke.

7

He’s democrat. Getting sick of hearing people tell me how amazing he’s doing

8
fexl1000 8 points ago +10 / -2

He's a Republican in the mold of Kasich, so yeah, Democrat. Ohio should be renamed the baa-baa state. The sheep here can't pick a leader. In my dreams I see Ted Cruz in Tavington's voice say "Tell me about... Ohio".

Check out this article on WKYC.com...

https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/health/coronavirus/covid19-appears-to-stabilize-at-uh-cleveland-clinic/95-82db021c-f5ab-41f9-8aae-371e2d4be27b

Some quotes from president of UH:

"Peak numbers of COVID-19 positive patients in the health system were about 120, and today our census around the health system is only 73 positive COVID patients," he said.

"We have no shortage of beds, no shortage of ICU beds and fortunately no shortage of ventilators," Simon said. "We are in very good shape in Northeast Ohio."

If you listen to Acton at the press conferences, you get the feeling that we'll all be dead by the end of the month.

I would argue any "conservative" governor or mayor who has tracked people via phones is already teetering on the edge of tyranny. You don't have to have an ankle tracker placed on you to have your rights violated and be subjugated in this modern world.

While no R Gov. has been near as extreme as the D Govs. they've almost all arguably still violated Constitution.

6
Leatherwood 6 points ago +7 / -1

It is not arguable. All Govs who have mandated shelter in place or lockdown have violated our 1st Amendment rights.

MS Gov Tate Reeves has been mostly good, but he has made some bonehead decisions, such as closing all lakes, reservoirs, and parks. His reasoning: He flew over the reservoir and saw a few people partying on an island. So, ban it all? Seriously?

Also, I disagree with his decision to shut down the remainder of the school year... I think kids need to go back May 1st and graduate just like every other class. I have a son who worked his ASS off to get academic awards and this is his senior year. He won't get recognized like the prior graduates before him, which pisses me off.

4
Mr_Dr_Jullian_Dunbar 4 points ago +4 / -0

TX Gov. Abbot is doing the same thing.

He is all cucked out and lets the mayors do what the fuck they want.

10.5 million to illegals of TAX PAYER MONIES in Austin for the "crisis" - does jack shit

Doesn't crack down on the sanctuary city stuff AT ALL - does jack shit

Austin and other Texas cities are said to stay closed till June 1st now.

What this whole thing has shown me is his callous nature of not giving a shit to average Texans.

Unless there is a purely good gov candidate that puts Texans and only Texans first - no vote from me.

2
Industry4 2 points ago +2 / -0

Abbott is one of the good guys. Cut him a little slack. I'm not suggesting I wouldn't vote for Reeves again. I just think he made some bonehead decisions.

1
Mr_Dr_Jullian_Dunbar 1 point ago +1 / -0

Not this time, regardless of how he was awesome at handling Harvey.

He's soft on illegal immigration with ALL of the major cities in Texas being sanctuary cities, massive graft that goes on with the mayors offices and their cronies (the Austin banning of plastic bags, where the city council set aside over a million dollars for 'education' - yet they all went on vacations bought shit - pure graft in open daylight), APD letting antifa act as literal terrorists during the 2018 elections, and massive voter fraud.

Crickets from the govs mansion...

1
thisguy883 1 point ago +1 / -0

Gov. Abbott fighting with Texas cities (All of which are solid blue) is like Trump fighting with states who are solid blue.

Its the god damn dems that control the cities that are to blame for the short falls the Texas government has been dealing with.

I voted for Abbott, and i'm paying attention to how he handles this. But i'm not going to sit there and say its all his fault why some shit doesn't get done the way its suppose to here in the State of Texas. You still have Anti-American / Anti-Texan politicians who control the major cities here.

Nope, I'm sorry, but that would be insane for the amount of work my son has done this year. Let me paint you a picture. Every year, he has watched other kids get academic awards. He made the commitment last year that he was going to work his ass off and take as many A.P. courses as possible and study. He has made straight A's, was student of the month, came in 9th on a national exam, got accepted with scholarship into a major university engineering dept, etc.. The kid has turned it around like nothing I have ever seen. All self-motivated. Doing what you suggest (making him re-take the semester) would be an injustice.

2
Nobrakesmike 2 points ago +2 / -0

Reeves has got us closed for one more week. Like I kept saying he wants it right down the middle. I was watching the presser and said he'll probably say one more week. Yep. His ten best qualities are he's not Jim Hood.

I live in Virginia where the school year got cancelled too but I'd never really thought about it... What are the HS seniors going to do, just finish up next year? So then they'd have to push college back a year, which tbh isn't a terrible idea anyways, but it should be an option that's available not forced, having to put off college won't work for everyone, especially if they're dealing with scholarships and stuff.

Plus what about the junior high schools? They've got a class of kids that's supposed to be leaving to HS and another class of elementary kids coming in... What a clusterfuck.

And this isn't even mentioning the fact that many, many parents use school as a de facto daycare so that they can go to work and wouldn't be able to afford private daycare, not to mention the fact that most or all private daycares are shut down anyways. Hard to restart the economy when people have to choose between staying home to watch their kids or going to work.

4
Imitate214 4 points ago +4 / -0

Larry Hogan.

He had state police show up at a Baptist church in Baltimore after their pastor said he wouldn't close his church to turn his people away.

3
Leatherwood 3 points ago +3 / -0

Indeed they are. In my "red" state, we have a shelter in place order and most parks are closed. Not to mention closure of businesses, churches, etc.

Where is the plan from the Governor to open the services and businesses of the state? Surely he knew this day was coming, and now he has no plan? Loser.

I really don't understand why Looney Larry never gets grouped in with the other clowns. He's not some conservative knight in shining armor slaying the liberal monsters of Maryland, he's just another one of the monsters wearing a mask. While he is up against a veto-proof supermajority in the state legislature, rather than stand up to them he just rolls over to virtue signal how bi-partisan and cooperative he is. Openly stated that he wrote in a vote for his deceased father rather than Trump. He's the Mitt Romney of governors.

Hopefully his attempt to gain higher office will be just as successful and short-lived as Marty O'Malley's was.

7
Industry4 7 points ago +7 / -0

Was thinking about THIS the other day...

Suppose we get to the elections and all states are open, except NY, IL, and CA. Could this be some kind of setup that Democrats are going to say that the elections cannot be fair because these are predominately leftwing states and that it gives one side an advantage? I could also see this scenario in big cities vs country. People in big cities are scared to vote, where in the open country, where social distancing is much easier, it isn't a problem. They will probably even try to blame Trump for setting this up with China or something...

I'm just so cynical of these assholes. I can't help but think that they are going to try and play this as some kind of voter disenfranchisement.

I've been confronting quite a few of them. They ignore all the stories about the fudging of the numbers that's being done, such as reporting WuFlu deaths without the deceased actually being tested as WuFlu. They all also seem to be convinced that the second anyone goes near anyone else, they're going to contract the WuFlu and subsequently die from it. Not that it's a risk, but more a guarantee.

The "Karens" are the worst factor perpetuating this shutdown because a lot of them, from my experience, are women. A common thread is that they either don't have a job or don't have a job that's at risk. I always make it a point to mention that people are suffering economically and losing jobs and businesses and they laugh it off or ignore the point. It's hard to tell if they're just "Orange Man Bad" NPCs or just don't care because nothing in their world has changed. Either way, they're disgraceful

2
TheThreeSeashells 2 points ago +2 / -0

Even worse is that Herr Beshear decided to enter one of these dopey "coalitions" which includes Michigan. It's unbelievable how tone deaf this clown is. Then used his press conference yesterday to smear the protesters, who only want to go back to work, as monsters who don't care about those who've (supposedly) died of the WuFlu and the disgusting local media jumped right in to echo that charge.

The AG has done a nice job pushing back a little, but the veto-proof majority state house and senate really have to take over. Herr Beshear is just another despot who wants the shutdown to continue because without it, he's basically reduced to cutting ribbons at supermarket openings. I curse the teachers unions every day for getting this clown elected.

2
TheThreeSeashells 2 points ago +2 / -0

Thank you. You're right. I was split between posting "teachers" and "unions" at first and ended up combining them by mistake.

3
sir_rockness 3 points ago +3 / -0

At first I got caught up in the hype of acting like teachers are some kinda protected class, but they aren't.

We have 70K teachers in KY and they screwed us over hard for a measly $2K annual pay raise. I know many of them... say they are Christian yet voted for a guy that gets major endorsements from Moloch https://www.prochoiceamerica.org/?s=beshear

I've stopped pulling punches on teachers. They aren't any more important than any worker in this state. They aren't above reproach... hell have you seen how tenure works in this state? If you're a shitty teacher as long as you toe the state teacher's union line... you're pretty much guaranteed a job till retirement.

We have too many counties in this state and we have too many teachers, judges, county execs, etc. Our state needs a fucking enema (politically)

1
TheThreeSeashells 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm fairly new to KY but managed to get a crash course on how corrupt the tenure system is and the ridiculous pensions. Every time I hear someone praise teachers or call them heroes, I either throw up a little or have to really keep myself from going off on someone if it's a public place (which doesn't always happen.) As far as I'm concerned, they're overpaid day care workers at best.

You're right about the enema, but it pales in comparison to where I came/escaped from (NY.) Glad I got the heck out of there just in time to help put Bevin into office. Still a lot more work to be done though.

I was disappointed. I live in Palm Beach county, the day he shut down the beaches my wife and I were out there. In eyesight there must have been twenty people, completely empty. Now that the beaches are shut down everyone that used to exercise on the beach parks where they used to and jogs on the street. Instead of spreading out everyone is crammed together. DeSantis didn't think this one though.

1
Nobrakesmike 1 point ago +1 / -0

Tate Reeves (Mississippi) is trying to have it both ways so I'd say he's the same but in his wimp fashion. Dude put a burn ban in effect cause rural volunteer fire departments are slammed with Covid-19 calls. Not really but he said they could be and gave no one warning the ban was coming. I got a huge pile of wood that needed to be burned and more I'd like to clear. By the time I am allowed there will be a drought and fires everywhere. Now would be the perfect time as it's rained a lot earlier this month.

1

Putting aside his political bickering with Trump, I've been impressed with Inslee in Washington. He definitely is very risk averse and shut down the state early, but he started with banning large gatherings. He has urged common sense and has even cut back on budget requests so that state reserves can stay high.

If he were president, he definitely would have been more authoritarian (he openly pushes for it in his press conferences), but as a governor he's been ok. Seattle's Mayor and City Council on the other hand have been shutting down parks and pushing for a lot more government control over Amazon and landlords.
