Where did she pick up her socialist ideas to begin with? Did you try to teach her about socialism and inoculate her against it growing up? I know it's easy to criticize, just want to understand how it happened in her case.
She didn't get it from me or her father. If anything she is rebelling against her parents. She picked up these ideas from school, the internet, and most of all, reddit. She's the one that introduced me to reddit in the first place.
She was always a softie wanting to take in all the world's strays and at one point during high school she seemed to be disgusted by the fact that her father and I were successful in life and not poor. We were middle class, lived in a middle class neighborhood. She thought we were rich... the one percenters. Which I tried to get her to understand, she had never seen how the truly wealthy live. She thought we were it in her mind.
It was through a combination of things. But most definitely not from her father or me. And if we tried to talk to her about socialism we were mocked: "I know that mom, I'm not talking about communists... do you think I'm stupid?" . In my head all I could think was, not stupid, just lacking in common sense.
