There are a few more rich areas in China, like Shenzhen and a bunch of other places. They call them Special Economic Zones, basically close to free market areas with communism outside of these zones. Shenzhen was nothing until Deng Xiaoping made it a SEZ. I guess it resembles fascism in a way, since the CCP is still the boss.
I think outside of Beijing and Shanghai they are actually pretty poor. Chinese govt is doing well... Chinese people, not so much.
