Can you explain the Hong Kong reference? My understanding is HK was land leased by Great Britain, a 99 year lease. At the end of the lease, the city was returned to China. There were guarantees given that Hong Kong residents would retain the freedoms they were accustomed to under British rule. But, China began limiting their freedoms and the Hong Kong protests began.
