Take a look at property prices in rural USA. You can get some land and a decent house for pretty cheap.

This is so true. I visited my brother, who lived in Cali for a few years, and while I was blown away with the natural beauty of the state and all that gorgeous coastline, I was flabbergasted by the cost of living out there.

For example, here is an example of what you can buy in the San Diego area for ~$500k. Here is what you can buy in Louisville, KY for about the same price with 3 acres of land. It's crazy.

Oh my gosh. A 1 bedroom condo in San Diego would be in a better neighborhood than the rattletrap you listed that has 4 bedrooms.

But I now see why people leave California for flyover country if they are not entrepreneurs.

I've been looking at super-rural areas, where you can find 4,000 sq ft homes on 50 acre plots for $500k.

We rented a condo in LA, hubby took a massive, nearly half, paycut. Our take home was similar and we could buy a very nice house with cash.
