I want to do the same, but am afraid of finding work. The only good thing about CA is that there are infinite jobs

I am in a flyoverstate and it is booming. Keep in mind the cost of living is enough lower that you can take a huge paycut and come out ahead.

California money is an illusion. The numbers seem high, but you typically end up with a lower standard of living than someone making much less in another state.

So the question is whether you value numbers or actual reality.

So true, half of take home was gone in just the visible taxes as we were renters and everything was expensive except in the underground cash economy.
