Be ready to hear how y’all doin? and, good mornin, etc. I noticed on trips to California that when you speak to people on the street, they look at you like you’re crazy. People will speak to you here. You may find yourself in a 30 minute conversation with a stranger.
When we moved to KY from NY a few years ago we noticed that about the 30-minute conversations. We would say a polite "hello" to someone we never met in a supermarket and next thing we know, we knew their life-story. We didn't complain, but it did take some acclimation.
Maybe that explains the confused looks.
