Talked to someone in Medical school yesterday who was insisting that the shutdown needs to stay in effect until there is a vaccine. I suggested that if people want to self-quarantine until 2021 then fine with me but I’m getting back to my life starting last week.
Her counter was essentially that I was being irresponsible because I was putting healthcare workers at risk if I got exposed and needed medical care.
It was such a bizarre comment to me that I didn’t even understand it. You mean to tell me that doctors and nurses don’t understand that their jobs exposes them to contagious people?!
If she had made the comment about grocery store checkers, OK that’s fair because they don’t sign up for infectious disease. But doctors and nurses?? Get the fuck out of here.

I don’t remember seeing this nonsense after 9/11 with the Fire Fighters and First Responders. They were certainly praised but they weren’t pandering for it. I don’t recall seeing Fire Fighters doing choreographed dance videos at Ground Zero. Those videos of doctors and nurses dancing are insulting. Supposedly these hospitals are “war zones” and they need tractor trailers to haul away all of the dead bodies while these nurses are making Tik Tok videos.
I feel for the ones that are losing their jobs over this bullshit. It sucks that their friends and colleagues that still have jobs are rubbing it in their faces that they’re getting paid to fuck off while they worry about paying rent and buying food.
