I want to get a message to the President that he should address the current high school seniors across America. They had their senior year ruined by this virus. My daughter, for example, had her senior prom cancelled 3 hours before it was supposed to start. We were literally putting the final touches on her makeup when the school's robocall came in that all high school functions were to be cancelled immediately. This included prom, all awards ceremonies, the senior play, the senior trip to Disney World that we had being paying for all year, and now graduation. School just unceremoniously ended. They don't even get to say goodbye to the friends they've been with for years. No one is really talking about them. They feel forgotten and unimportant. And, really, so do the parents. I feel that we were robbed of this milestone, too. This is such an important transition for the whole family.
I was thinking that maybe if the President addressed the high school seniors directly that it could ease some of the sting.
Thanks, pedes!
Couldn't agree more with you. Every year, my son (a senior in high school) has watched other kids get academic awards. He made the commitment last year that he was going to work his ass off and take as many A.P. courses as possible and study. He has made straight A's, was student of the month, came in 9th on a national exam, got accepted with scholarship into a major university engineering dept, etc.. The kid has turned it around like nothing I have ever seen. All self-motivated. It breaks my heart that he won't get the recognition that he worked so hard for.
This is a great idea. I wholeheartedly support you.
That is fantastic. You must be so proud! He deserves recognition from his school and his peers. Having it instantly disappear sucks - no other way to say it. This is why I am angry. You see your kids work so hard to achieve something and, through no fault of their own, they are robbed of it. My daughter was one of only 5 recipients of a Marine ROTC scholarship in our state and she was really looking forward to the awards ceremony, so I feel your son's pain. I wish we could do something as parents, but we are helpless and at the mercy of our states and school boards. I admit that I was jealous of the Air Force graduation.
Thanks for saying that. you must be very proud too! One thing is for sure... We are both lucky parents! Keep fighting for your daughter. I will do the same. ;)
There should be rescheduled graduation ceremonies. Even if it later in the summer. I graduated college in the December semester and wanted to walk to get my diploma so I went back in May. I already had a job so it wasn't easy to get back, but dang was it ever worth it.
He has the recognition, especially from his parents, and from himself, who proved to himself that, with really hard work, he did and could accomplish anything he sets his mind to do, in the future.
And all of us here, congratulates him for his successful endeavors and his 'STRAIGHT A' are also recorded in his final grades... BRAVO TO HIM!!!
Thank you!!!
Life will reward him. Sounds like a great kid.
